Description:

Well, June is here and you know what that means? Pride Month Y'all!

For this swap, you're gonna have two partners and you'll be sending them an email. Please remember to use the BCC function.

In the email, you're going to write about some queer history. Let's get those brains working to search up some stuff (or if you've got some history stored, let's hear it).

Okay so, in your email, answer the prompts below (3 or more is fine)! Let's see how much you know!

  • Is the LQBTQIAP+ Movement transnational?

  • What was a significant or defining moment in your country that propelled the LGBTQIAP+ Movement forward?

  • What classic queer films have you seen? If you haven't seen any, what would you like to see?

  • What classic queer literature have you read or would like to read?

  • Favourite moment in Queer History?

  • What year was same-sex marriage legalised in your state/country?

  • When did your country/state decriminalise homosexual acts?

  • Do you think the LGBTQIAP+ Movement was 'progressive' for its time? (note: this can be relative to your country or on a global spectrum)

  • What do you think the Queer Movement should be demanding/fighting/protesting now?

  • Do you think the LQBTQIAP+ Movement is more intersectional now?

  • What books have you read written by Queer people?

  • Has your library always displayed books featuring queer characters or authors? Do they do anything for Pride Month or International Day Against Homophobia?

  • Do you think where you are people are more 'accepting' of LGBTQIAP+ People or not yet?

  • What music do you associate with 'queerness'?

  • What effect do you think the AIDS/HIV crisis had on the LGTBQIAP+ Movement and queer people?

  • Is there anything specific you like or find funny/odd about a specific moment in history that relates to 'queerness'?

  • What country first legalised same-sex marriage?

  • What country first decriminalised homosexuality?

  • Where were the first LGBTQIAP+ Protests?

  • What did the pink triangle (worn by LGTBQIAP+ people) mean in the 70s onwards? [note and also a hint: not the 1930s-1940s]

  • What famous groups do you know of that were LGBTQIAP+ or allied to the group?

  • Why do you think the LGBTQIAP+ Protests emerged?

  • Do you think people's opinions have shifted towards LGBTQIAP+ People? (ie. are they more open-minded or do you think they haven't really changed)

Anyway, I hope you like the questions! I just finished an essay on the Gay and Lesbian Movement in Australia so it was fun but some stuff was super hard to read because all that happened, big yikes.

Note: I'm using queer and queerness interchangeably with LGBTQIAP+ because queer was originally a slur that had been taken back by the community to create a new meaning and embrace it in a new way.

Further Note: LGBTQIAP+ includes but isn't limited to: lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, asexual, aromantic, non-binary/enby, genderfluid, greysexual, demisexual, pansexual, intersex, genderqueer, agender, allosexual, polyamorous, and many many others!

If you find anything offensive or not to your liking, let me know! I know that certain terms vary for people and some might be too new or too outdated.

Happy Pride, y'all!
