Description:

Mennonite Letter folds are a simple and neat way to use your sheet of letter-writing paper as its own envelope.

For this swap you'll make and decorate three A4-sized (or there abouts) letter folds for each of your 3 partners. It's sender's choice as to the style, theme and techniques used for decoration (though if you're going to use stickers or embellishments, I strongly recommend that you do all the folding before you stick anything on the paper - that way you'll definitely be able to close it when you're done... I learned this the hard way...)

If you've never tried this type of fold before, I have some simple instructions on how to make a Mennonite letter fold over at Instructibles

This swap is open to newbies and anyone with no 1 ratings at all (although I'm willing to make an exception if you've been unfairly rated - just drop me a message) and no 3 ratings in the past three months. I reserve the right to ban any problem swappers.

I made a few of these before signing up for the swap. The first one was hard, but I soon got the hang of it. come on people, sign up. Great way to use some of your scrapbook papers. I cut mine to 9 x 12 and the size works well.

I feel there is something missing in the directions. I am a great orgamist so it shouldn't be so befuddling for me! :) Is this an envelope that ends up requiring tape to "close" I end up with a an isosocles triangle at the end with nowhere to tuck in!

The folding instructions were easy and I had no problem at all.

Oh now Diane...don't be dogging your friend! ;) The folding instructions missed the "flip over" move that is required and after struggling with three sheets of paper....I finally got! Watch it, girl or I will "un" friend you! haha Love ya, Tia

Tia....I didn't even realize that was your post....I am totally laughing so hard.....

edgetorn 03/ 1/2009 #

You're supposed to put a sticker over the triangle to seal it shut.

Tia, the instructions in step six read: "Fold the little triangle over the edge, then turn your paper over: you should have an envelope that looks like the final picture. Use your stamp to seal the triangle down"

That was the clearest way I could find to describe what you have to do, and it both includes the instruction to flip the paper over (though I do use the word 'turn' instead) and points out that you use a stamp to stick the triangle down. If you can think of a clearer way for me to word any of that then please let me know - I want the instructions to be as clear as possible.

No, it is not the trianglr for the stamp, I got that. It was this HUGE triangle that was leftover some how! haha I got it but made me feel like a "dumba**"! haha I made a bunch of them but I am bitter! haha Tia

No, I know about the stamp triangle. But that SIDE triangle was the one that was HUGE and befuddling me. haha. ;) I juat pushed it in and it's all good. T

Aah. Glad to hear you've found a solution!

Ok... I get the whole folding thing, BBBbbbbut.... to clarify about the swap itself... 3 for 3? totaling 9? sending 3 to each partner in an envelope for them to use in the future? NOT sticking down the flap with a stamp or sticker?.... OR make one for each partner and actually send it like a letter?

hanfmuk 03/ 7/2009 #

3 for each partner, totalling 9. And, yes, sending them in an envelope for them to use in the future.
