Years ago I saw a challenge on Craftster that tickled my fancy: buy a piece of artwork from a thrift shop and work your magic on it to make it fabulous. The rules are pretty much what I just said in the last sentence. Flake and die. There will be a nice long window so that you have time to find your piece and put some effort into it. One more rule: you MUST take a good photo of your before and after piece to post in the forum a couple weeks after the swap ends and your partner has received their new artwork (or email to me and I'll post it for you...but we all get to see what everyone else comes up with so don't be shy!). This swap is open to all members of the G.A.S.P. so I very strongly suggest that you wait until partners have been assigned before choosing the artwork you want to alter. A small piece of art that can fit into a flat rate envelope will cost about $13 to mail internationally through the U.S. Postal System, whereas anything much larger than that will cost closer to $30-$40 to ship so please take postage to your partner's country into consideration! There is no size limit to this project so do be aware that you may alter a huge sofa-sized painting and get a 8x10 in return. Size doesn't matter, right? Good. Have fun! For some inspiration, check out the amazing virtual exhibit at the Wurst Gallery by clicking here - be sure and mouse-over each artist's original painting to see the finished work!
