I see another swap going on for the Day in the Life Tour, where you mail the pictures to your partners, and I was thinking a digital swap might make it easier and less expensive, if more technology-heavy, for an International swap. So here's the deal: To participate in this swap, you need the technical know-how and software to create an electronic document that can contain pictures and text. MS Word, MS Publisher, Photoshop, GIMP, Printshop, Home Publisher, etc. Take 10-12 digital pictures of each hour of one of your typical days, combine it with a digital plain text journal explaining each scene and how it came to be, what you were doing and why, and put it all into a file that you can send electronically to your partner. Adobe .pdf, Plain text or an html file with .jpg pictures is preferred if you partner doesn't have MS Word to open a .doc file. Keeping in mind that not all of us have broadband connections, please make the pictures small enough so that it doesn't take all day to download them. The sign up date will be three weeks from now, and the mailing date will be three weeks after that to give time for composition of your document. The actual mailing should be instantaneous, or pretty close! If you sign up and have a very slow connection, you could ask your partner to perhaps post the document on their blog or at Flickr or something, post a comment here so they know what to do for you. If anyone needs some technical help on composing this type of document, e-mail me and I'll help you get it going. Please don't sign up if you have more than one no-send, or have bad ratings, less that 4.5--or e-mail me with a really good reason why you should be allowed to join. Newbies are welcome if they have the technical knowhow to make and send this type of document. |
