Number of swap partners:5
Description:

Please note that the sign ups for this swap are now closed! The theme of this swap is: A Woman of Influence. Interpret this theme as you wish. This is a 5 for 5 swap. This means you will make five sets of pages, and send one to each of the five partners you are assigned. In return, you will receive one set of double pages from each of the five people who are given your name as a partner. You will be creating five sets of double pages. (Or if you're like me, make six, and keep one set for yourself.) Each set should be built on a 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of cardstock or index stock, landscape format. (Landscape means the paper is oriented so it's wide and short when you're creating your artwork---so, you'll be working on a piece that's 11 inches wide, and 8-1/2 inches high.) For complete instructions on creating this type of double page tip-in, please refer to the instructions posted on my site, here . Please be sure you can create your pages and have them in the mail by the last day of July. Folks who fail to meet their deadlines will be blocked from participating in any future swaps I host. I'll also weed out those of you who sign up with existing bad ratings karma here at Swap-bot. One more thing: I know this site says to scan the items you receive and post them in the gallery. I'm against scanning and posting someone else's work, for copyright reasons. Feel free to scan and post YOUR OWN WORK in the gallery---flaunt your own work, and be proud! ETA: Please don't email asking for the names of your swap partners. Swap-bot will assign them after the sign ups close, and you can log in and view them any time after that. Also, if you're new to Swap-bot, please read all the info on the FAQ page.

HI! This looks like fun. I've done altered books and tip-ins before and have thoroughly enjoyed them. :)Bea

Hi, me again, I was wondering why the pages are landscape orientation, instead of portrait. I see we are doing double sets of pages. I also see the directions from A Crash Course in Tip-Ins is done in portrait. Any particular reason for the landscape presentation? Just curious. I'm one of those odd people that likes to look at a book, you know left to right and am usually not so gung ho about turning it sideways to view, but that's just me. :)Bea

The example of the double page spread in my lesson is done in landscape. The paper starts out wider than it is high. 8-1/2 x 11 landscape means the paper is oriented so it's 11 inches wide and 8-1/2 inches high when you're doing your artwork.

Thanks Lisa. I had gone to the Crash Course in Tip-Ins and it looked like portrait presentation. I'm going to start on my pages this weekend so I wanted to make sure I was heading in the right direction. :)Bea

It's only portrait if you treat each side of the page as a unique composition---which is not usually the case when you do an altered book spread. Normally, you would view the two pages as a single composition, and unless you have a very tall, skinny book, most two-page AB spreads are considered landscape.

OK folks, the partners have been assigned---and my packages are on the way in the morning! I've also uploaded the image of my swap pages to clear up any confusion about orientation.

I've completed my 5 tip ins and they are in today's mail to the group. Per instructions, will post pix of tip ins that I RECEIVE, unless someone requests that I not do so. Okay for my group to post mine when they receive their page. Thanks, Lisa, for coordinating the swap. This is a great site and I appreciate learning about swap-bot. -- Pj

lisavollrath 07/ 3/2006 #

PJ, as it says in the instructions for this swap, please post pics of the items you SEND---the folks who run this site are clearly not aware of the copyright implications of posting scans of work that are not your own.

pjdoyle 07/ 3/2006 #

That's what I thought your instructions were, but the site asks you to submit pages you "receive" -- I'll post mine per your request

I tried to post a scan of my tip-in pages for the swap. It uploaded them, said it was done and then all I got for my efforts was a blank screen for ages and ages. lol When I checked the gallery what I wrote showed up but I got a little red x for my efforts. Sorry. :)Bea

My pages will be going out in the mail on Wednesday. :)Bea

I am very excited. I've finished my tip-ins. It's my first time doing them and my very first swap of any kind. I am letting them settle over the weekend and will mail out on Monday the 17th. I did upload the picture of it. This is really great fun! Betsy

I am ready to send, and noticed the swap partners I send to are DIFFERNT then the ones I recieved tip-ins from. Is this correct? I am sure it is, just checking.

Kevin

lisavollrath 07/18/2006 #

Kevin, it's correct. You will not receive from the same people to whom you send---Swap-bot's partner assignments are not reciprocal.

pjdoyle 07/18/2006 #

Thanks for clarifying the random swap assignments -- I was beginning to wonder. I was fortunate enough to receive pages from Jamie and Bren -- verrry nice! I am especially touched by the Joan of Arc spread as that is my parish! Thanks to Kevin and al who have posted pix. I do appreciate seeing the finished products. Thanks to you, Lisa, for arranging this. I like the way this worked out -- smooth process!

My mailbox runneth over today, with packages from Betsy, Debbie and Chelsea. All very clever pieces, ladies!

pjdoyle 07/29/2006 #

Received Linda Morgan's "Mother Teresa" spread in today's mail -- nice blending of the collage elements with the theme and the balance is right on!
