November 15th is "America Recycles Day"

I am an avid recycler. I have read many things about how re-using and reducing is far more effective at helping with interruption of the Garbage Stream. My state (Nevada) isn't the most forward thinking so I can't recycle many things here, but I do my best to reduce my "footprint."

I thought this might be a fun time to re-use a postcard or notecard that you received, kept and want to send to your partner. There are many ways to repurpose the card. Notecards are generally easier because you can just rip the fun front off of it and VIOLA! you have a postcard.

For a postcard re-use you can

1. paint the back with gesso or acrylic paint and write over that. If you want to use a giant amount of white out, that would work too :)

2. cut up a paper bag or some other paper-y thing and glue over the back and make it your own.

To really embrace the spirit of recycling you can employ as much "trash" as possible in getting your postcard ready for re-use. Like using junk mail to cover the back or something like that.

TIP If you have things that are tough to recycle like big appliances, batteries, and other household or car items - check your local waste management or chamber of commerce web page because many American towns and cities will be hosting events where you can safely dispose of these types of items without paying the large price tag charged by the landfill
