Description:

The last few years I've made a calendar using my photographs to give to family and friends. I've had those printed by one of those companies that prints photographs, but I thought we might enjoy a DIY version!

I love having different calendars hanging up in my office. And I thought it would be fun to enjoy the photography of other Swap-bot members every time I look up to check the date!

For this swap, make a calendar page for your partner for January 2024, using photographs taken by you.

Use either A4 or US letter (8.5 by 11 inches (216 mm x 279 mm) paper. I know that those aren't exactly the same, but since we'll have our calendar page for each month on a separate sheet, it won't matter if different months come out slightly differently. It's best if we think of each one as an individual piece of photographic art.

Half of the page should be the actual 2024 January calendar, the other half is for your design. If you Google 'January 2024 calendar' or 'calendar pages images' , you'll find lots of calendar pages that you can use for the date half of your page.

It's completely up to you whether you print both photo and calendar on a single page, or add a printed photograph to a page that has the calendar. Either way, use something fairly sturdy as your backing. . Your partners are going to have this hanging up for an entire month -- make it strong so that it still looks good at the end of the month!

Post it in a sturdy envelope so that it survives the mailing process! We'll do January in this swap -- if it proves popular, I'll gradually post further swaps so that those of us who want can eventually do the whole calendar year.

So what does January make you think of? Snow and cold weather? Or if you're in Australia, sunshine and barbecues? New Year's resolutions? Or you might decide to choose something completely different -- an abstract or a wildlife photo.

The Holiday Insights website has great lists of holidays -- both major ones and wacky ones.

Don't use pictures of your friends and family -- they aren't really relevant to your partner in the way they are to you.

Have fun with this swap, and make something that you're proud of and that your partners will enjoy having on their wall!
