Description:

This swap is for handmade grocery bags, or morsbags.

You can use whatever pattern you like, but if you do use the morsbags pattern, you should also sew on the morsbags.com logo. Make sure your bag is sturdy enough to hold large amounts of weight and to do that over and over again--This is why I like the morsbags pattern.

You will have one partner and you will send them one handmade grocery bag. You can either sew your own, or you can buy one from your local store and decorate it however you wish. They are selling these totes at more and more stores. In my area, Shaws, Hannaford and Wal-Mart all sell reusable bags. It's okay if right now you don't use handmade grocery bags, but by using just one, you're eliminating possibly 100's of plastic bags being used.

Why, you say? Or what's the point, you say?
Visit this site and read this. 1 million plastic bags are consumed per minute globally - of which hundreds of thousands end up in the oceans.
Now, are you ready?

I've been making morsbags all of two days, so I'm not a pro at it, and you don't need to be either. Just make sure you put some effort into the bag you make. You can use fabric/thread that you think your partner will like (from their profile info). Or you can decorate it with colors you think your partner will enjoy (again, from their profile info).

Crocheted/knitted bags are okay too!

Gain hearts by throwing something special in, if you want.

Newbies welcome, as long as you have a VERY well filled out profile.

This is an international swap because this is an international problem and these bags shouldn't cost much to send. I think when I sent out 3 fat quarters and a small surprise it cost about $1.25 USD.

No no-sends EVER and no 1s allowed. No 3s in the last 4 months. If you have what you feel is an unfair rating, PM me to talk about it. You also need to have been signed into Swap-Bot two days before the swap sign up date. I will check profiles before I assign partners.

Once you complete your bag (only once you complete your bag), if you have hand sewn it and added the morsbags logo, PM me and I will add your bag to the total of the ones Swap-Bot members have made. Right now the total is 740!!

I have the right to ban anyone who seems fishy. I will angel this swap, but please do not sign up if you do not have the intention of sending. That's just rude!

If you have any questions, comment below or PM me.

interesting, I'm watching this one, I have lots of these bags from our grocery store, Wal-Mart, Joann's, etc, but none are as pretty as a homemade one could be, or one that was purchased and personally decorated.

i do my shopping at a huge market every weekend and after visiting all the stalls i need to, i always end up with a million plastic bags. i've started taking reusable bags with me and it feels good to know i've at least made some difference!!

Awesome! I'd never heard of that morsbag site but I think I'll try making one. if it doesn't turn out, I'll buy a basic tote and embroider it to fit my partners profile. Awesome swap!

Love2Teach 05/14/2009 #

Carol--sure you can join! Just make sure your profile is filled out well so your partner has an easy time finding/making a bag that you'll enjoy!

Be aware that you don't automatically get a heart for throwing in extras. Only the receiver can decide if a heart is given.

Can you host this again? I've been bogged down!! You know I want to join! I just can't right now, I've got too many swaps due around this one's due date to guarantee the bag I send would be my best work. Please do this again for July/August! :-D

As this is my first swap....do I need to go somewhere else to find my partner? lol I'm such a thicko hey? Hugs Naomi

Love2Teach 06/14/2009 #

Naomi, click on the link that says "see the partners I send to" to see the person you send to. You'll see their address and a link to click on their user name to see their profile.

Doodle--Sure I'll host another for August!

richara--I know the rules. But, it would be awfully disappointing to send extras and NOT get a heart...don't you think?
