Description:

This is one of a monthly series of quotecard postcard swaps held to share a little zinger of wisdom/humour/etc with your partners. It is a pretty basic postcard swap. The only catch is that it MUST contain one of your favourite quotes, but that can be either an old friend or a newly discovered favourite. The postcard can be handmade or commercial. If it is handmade, you can incorporate your quote into the design if you prefer; otherwise you must write it on the back of the card.

Please say where the quote is from or give the credit where it's due. You may use quotes in languages other than English, but if you do, please include a translation for your partner. Do not forget to include the swap name and your user name on the card!

You will send out 3 of these cards, one to each partner, possibly across the globe. They should be postmarked! Please DO NOT send in an envelope.

I will ban if I see multiple no-sends or have any other reason to believe you will not be a good swap partner. Newbies are welcome!! (but must have a filled out profile.)

Happy swapping to all! Please contact me if you have any questions or problems.

Note: This swap series was originated by @nicole who later handed it over to me.

This should be a fun, low-pressure swap, so don't feel you have to do a lot of research unless you want to do that.I have a Notepad file in which I save quotations that I like, so I don't usually need to search for them for my Quotecards, but when I want quotes on a particular theme, I put:

[theme keywords] quote OR quotation

into a search engine. I get links to some general quotation sites but also ones which only have quotes on that theme, which often have many more than the general sites.

Some general ones:

The Quote Garden

Think exist

Quotations Book

Quotations Home Page

Quoteland

The Quotations Page

The Quotations Archive

TCPN Quotations

WikiQuote

can I use a quote form the bible

spinjenny 06/17/2009 #

I don't see why not, unless your partner mentions on their profile that they have a strong aversion to receiving anything religious. I think most people only object when what they are sent seems to be an attempt to convert them or to put down their own beliefs or way of life, not when it just an inspirational quote. I've sent quotes from the Buddha even though I am not a Buddhist and no-one has objected.

so, i have a random, silly question .. are handmade postcards essentially like larger versions of ATCs? i'm new to this!

spinjenny 07/ 9/2009 #

It is not a silly question at all. Handmade postcards are anything you make yourself which is around 6" x 4", fairly flat, sturdy enough to be mailed without an envelope, with an address and message on one side and something else on the other side. :-)

They are often printed at home (which may need some sort of sealer), collaged or the sender's own photographs backed with stiffer card. I also make fabric postcards, which are basically 6" x 4" small quilts with some stiff interfacing betweeen the layers, and which usually have embroidery, beads or buttons on the 'picture' side. I admit I haven't sent any of those for quotecard swaps yet, because I'm not sure quotecard collectors would want something so strange but if I get a partner who likes fabric ATCs/postcards, I'll probably try it.

A warning, though - in some countries, anything at all 3-dimensional or too stiff or limp to go through the machinery cannot be sent with a normal postcard-rate stamp, so if you make something which doesn't look like a normal postcard, take it into the PO and mail it at the counter. Also, make sure all the parts of the card are securely attached.

Another good website for literary quotes is www.goodreads.com .

A fabric postcard?! That has to be the coolest thing ever!!

I love this PC swap idea, I have tons of GREAT quotes to share!

spinjenny 07/14/2009 #

All being well, I'll assign partners on Thursday, so not long to wait now ... :-)

The next swap in the series, Quotecard Postcard #27 has now been created. I hope to see a lot of you in that one too.

Quote postcards are en route to my partners (two here in the U.S.; and one in Canada.) Enjoy!

I love fabric postcards!

EllaStroupe 07/20/2009 #

I really enjoyed this one. Can't wait to see what quotes I get in the mail. I hope my partners like the quotes that I sent.

FibreJunky 08/ 1/2009 #

Just a quick note...I did mail these yesterday but I forgot to mark sent!

spinjenny 08/16/2009 #

It now more than 2 weeks since the Send deadline for this swap. I am trying to contact the two members who have not yet marked Sent, and I will contact their partners soon too. If others of you have not received after a reasonable time, bearing in mind where your partners live, please try to contact them. If you cannot resolve it between you, please PM me, as I will not be checking the comments for this swap any more
