Description:

Here is a really easy and really cute tutorial for a Scrap Scarf.

While those of us in the northern hemisphere are just getting into summer, we have lots of members in the southern hemisphere who are just getting into their winter. Plus the fall will be here before you know it (the summers just go so quickly, don't they?).

So get your sewing scraps together, and a bit of fleece, and make your partner a funky scarf!

To guide your partner, please list in the comments below three colours or three colour combinations that you like. Just basic colours please - I will remove anything that is too picky or specific or difficult to find - after all, this is supposed to be a scrap project!

If your partner has not listed their colours by the sign-up date, it will be sender's choice based on your partner's profile.

I will be checking profiles to make sure everyone is a member in good standing of this group.

Have fun!

ADDED JULY 22 - LENGTH OF SCARF

If you follow the tute exactly, this scarf ends up about 6 feet long. If you want your scarf either (1) about 5 feet or (2) about 4 feet long instead, please comment below. If you have not left a comment, your partner may assume you want your scarf about 6 feet long.

Please note that your choices are either about 6 feet, about 5 feet or about 4 feet. Any other wonky lengths requested will be deleted. Thx!

Since I'm not 5 foot,,make my scarf about 4 foot- no more. If I read right that tutorial says it's going to end up 6 feet. Too long for me.

TerryF 07/23/2009 #

The first time I read the tutorial (quickly, I admit), I had thought it was going to be about 3 feet plus the patchwork ends when finished. I agree with you that 6 feet is way too long a scarf - for just about anyone!

I will revise the swap description and email everyone so that they know to check back here before starting to cut and sew.

Thx knitmom7.

TerryF 07/23/2009 #

Please make my scarf about 4 feet as well. Thx!

queensonia2001 07/23/2009 #

4 ft is good for me!

SouthWestMoonUnit 07/23/2009 #

I'm fine with a 4 foot scarf.

I like lots of bright colors: light greens, lilacs, turquoise, pinks - heck I love tie-dyes, too! As long as it doesn't include any colors like hunter green, dark maroon (really dark tones) is fine with me.

knitmom7 07/23/2009 #

When you cut the scarf, if you read the directions, selvage to selvage is not crosswise. It rolls and makes life miserable. So lengthwise works better. Think end for end. Probably why you are to buy 1 yard of fabric that is usually 45 inches wide!

Robin 07/23/2009 #

Oh, I don't care.... 4, 5, 6.....whatever is fine with me.

I hope everyone is having a beautiful day

Robin 07/23/2009 #

BTW.....you do realize that the tutorial piece is not exactly 6 ft long......because of seam allowances.

jemma 07/23/2009 #

scrap and funky is what attracted me to the swop i hope we are not getting too regimented

TerryF 07/23/2009 #

Robin, that is why I said "about" 6 or "about" 5 or "about" 4 feet long.

I do not want anyone to take out their tape measure when they get their scarf and then rate their partner down because it may be a few inches one way or the other. As long as your scarf is "about" the length you requested, has patchwork on both ends, and is in some of your preferred colours, please rate a 5 (assuming of course that it was sent on time and received).

knitmom7 07/24/2009 #

Good job, Terry! There's another scarf swap to experiment with and who knows, if it works out, there may be more. They are fun.

SewSouthern 07/28/2009 #

hmmm, about 5 is good for me....any colors are fine except 'country' colors

LittleRed 07/28/2009 #

What a cute project! I'm in. I may be limited in the colours of the suede like fabric I can find here since the nearest fabric store is small and is an hour away....but I'll do my best! For myself I'd like a scarf 4 or 5 feet long ( but not 6...that too long for me) and I tend to wear earthy colours. So anything cream, biege, brown, rust etc would be great. You can certainly throw in a bit of other colours too. I'm sure I'll love it!

Carolyne 07/30/2009 #

Great idea!

4, 5 or 6 feet is fine for the length. I

Carolyne 07/30/2009 #

Opps! 4, 5 or 6 feet is fine for the length. I love jewel tone colours and in particular purples, blues or vibrant pinks.

julieacs 08/ 1/2009 #

4 or 5 feet will work for me. Any colors will work - I'm sure it'll be great!

vanessalouise 08/ 1/2009 #

panda1957 08/ 5/2009 #

This should be easy.....it does not matter what lenght. As for colors I have not favorite. I will leave it up you the imagination of my partner and be surprised. :0).

lovetheearth 08/ 6/2009 #

My life has finally settled down and I'm excited about being able to get back into swapping!!!

I would love any size scarf 4' + (I'm a taller gal and enjoy wrapping around my neck a couple of times).

Looking forward to something new to wear.

Favorite color combos: Green & Blue Green & Yellow Red, Black, & White

I really LOVE the color green. Feel free to mix and match whatever works best. The only color I never wear is PINK (it's just not my color). Everything else if fair game.

Thanks!

knitmom7 08/ 9/2009 #

Don't worry about sewing 1/4 inch around edges on mine. The rolled look is fine with me!
