Handmade notebook swap
Swap Coordinator:Agota (contact)
Swap categories: Paper Goods  Art  Zines
Number of people in swap:23
Location:Other
Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:July 25, 2007
Date items must be sent by:August 25, 2007
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

You will have to make a notebook according to your partners profile. And it will be not an ordinary notebook!

It has to be somehow similar to zine, but there also have to be a lot of blank pages for notes.

For example: you have to make a cover of the notebook according to your partner's favourite things. You can also make some illustrations or quotes on random pages as you think that your partner would like. (But it has still be a notebook!) and you can make a bookmark inside of the notebook if you think it's needed.

Make sure it's not very small and not very big. I think that size of A5 would be perfect. And please be sure that there will be about 70 pages.

You can find sizes in wikipedia.

Swapping dates are in august, so you have a lot of time to decide and it will be cool to start new year of studies, or just start your work after the holidays with a fresh notebook:)

  • One partner
  • International
  • Your rating must be 4.6+
  • Newbies are also welcome, but please chek out your profile one more time in order to receive something that you would really like.

I think that's all.

Please, let me know if I forgot something! Enjoy making notebooks!!

For North Americans, A5 is about 5 4/5" x 8 1/4".

Agota 05/31/2007 #

thanks TerryF! actually I'm from Europe and don't really know all the american standarts :)

gooddog56 05/31/2007 #

It would be nice to have the sign up date sooner, to allow more time to personalize the cover and some of the pages for the person who will receive it.

Agota 05/31/2007 #

I made it from the 25 of july. Is it ok to have a month?

beckra 05/31/2007 #

This sounds like a fun swap! I have one question, though: I'm not sure what it means for the notebook to be "somehow similar to a zine"--any clarification? Before I sign up I want to make sure I know what is being asked for....

gooddog56 05/31/2007 #

That's great, Agota, thanks for giving me a bit more time to put it together...

Agota 06/ 1/2007 #

beckra, well, by telling that I mean that you can make some pages like from zine. For example, you can insert some illustrations or little articles or just quotes that you think your partner would like :) I hope now it's understandable.. :/

beckra 06/ 1/2007 #

Thanks for explaining a little more, Agota!

teresa 06/14/2007 #

Do we have to make the notebook ourselves, or are we able to use a pre-made one? Thanks!

Agota 06/15/2007 #

Hi Teresa! as you wish :) but it has to be well done although you are going to bind the notebook by yourself. For example, if you're going to bind it by yourself, you can put some extra pages from books or pages with illustrations. But if you want, you can use pre-made notebook, untill it's still based on the topic on your partners profile.

teresa 06/15/2007 #

Is it ok to leave a comment here saying some things about the notebook we would like? For example, I prefer blank notebooks as opposed to lined. Sorry, I'm a total newbie!

Agota 06/19/2007 #

Of course it is OK. You can do it here, or in your profile :)

Agota 06/20/2007 #

I would also like to receive notebook with blank pages as opposite to lined or squared ones :)

Emmuzka 07/ 3/2007 #

Would it be okay to bind the book with the comb binding machine?

(example: http://www.officezone.com/gbc-c55-combbinder.htm)

Of course this would require an extra attention to a stylish overall finish. But those make note books that are really nice in use because you can fold the hard covers out of way.

Agota 07/ 5/2007 #

It doesn't matter what method you use. Just be sure it will be tough.

AngelFaeryKathleen 07/ 7/2007 #

Hi Agota, 70 pages seem to be a lot in a handmade book! Is this number right?

m 07/ 8/2007 #

does the 70 pages include the illustrations, quotes and all that jazz?

Agota 07/ 9/2007 #

70 is not very much i think :) this is notebook, not notepad or memopad or smth. Kind a big one :)

m. yes, it's with all that stuff!

Agota 07/20/2007 #

well, but it's not essential to make some illustrations on each page :)

Smurfa 07/22/2007 #

I also prefer blanck notebooks! Very fun swap :)

mag 07/24/2007 #

just to clarify. is one page one side of a sheet of paper or is one page both sides of a sheet of paper? ie do we have 35 or 70 sheets of paper? thanks.

user9465 07/25/2007 #

I also would like to have a blank notebook. I have also purchased a blank journal for my partner.

I'm so looking forward to this swap. I have been making a soul book for my Aunt who has survived breast cancer and it was very uplifting and therapeutic to make.

astarocket 07/26/2007 #

blank notebook too :) as i see we're all going to make and receive blank ones

Agota 07/26/2007 #

Partners are assigned! Have fun everyone!!!!

poofsizzle 07/30/2007 #

I'd prefer a blank notebook (as opposed to one with lines)

poofsizzle 07/30/2007 #

I second Maggie's question. 70 paginated pages, or 70 sheets of paper?

MeyRosly 07/31/2007 #
