Gadzooks! How can I resist? In short, nohow. Bwahahaha. B

missychrissy 06/ 1/2007 #

What size do we make this please? Never heard of mail art before so any advice would be great. Thanks

user7866 06/ 1/2007 #

What an awesome swap idea! I am so in love with the swap image. :)

wackystuff 06/ 1/2007 #

MissyChrissy: Any size (or thing) that will go through the mail is fine. You could make postcards or send art in a decorated envelopes. The second link I posted above has some examples of Mail Art.

mcall 06/ 1/2007 #

Yipppeeee! That's what I'm talking about!!Ahhhhhhhhh

missychrissy 06/ 1/2007 #

OK thank you... so basically a decorated envelope?

wackystuff 06/ 1/2007 #

MissyChrissy: Decorated may not best describe it. Mail Art is more likely to be an envelope covered with original artwork, usually with some kind of message or theme. It is more than something pretty. For this swap, we are trying for pretty odd.

wackystuff 06/ 1/2007 #

Here are some examples of recent Mail Art: http://www.mailart.org/archives/category/contributors/

missychrissy 06/ 2/2007 #

afraid that site doesn't help me much... if I used an envelope, do I paint/stamp/decorate it and then send it as it is, or put it in another envelope to protect it?

I usually make ATCs or cards which are sent in other envelopes.

wackystuff 06/ 2/2007 #

MissyChrissy: The art goes on the outside. Don't put it in a plain envelope to protect it. Of course, the thing about mail art is that you can do whatever the heck you want. Maybe you could send an Artist Trading Card inside your altered envelope.

CandyStar 06/ 2/2007 #

Oh wow - does it have to be decorated and artsy? once upon a time I mailed my friend a piece of styrofoam.... Can I make something really strange or cute and fun that isn't in an envelope but will still be mailable... and make the postal workers think "what the heck"?

Or is it strictly decorating packaging and mailing art? Can the packaging BE the art?

-Jesse

wackystuff 06/ 3/2007 #

♥Candy Star♥ You can make whatever you want, the stranger the better. My opinion is that Mail Art is not about decoration!

FarStarr 06/ 4/2007 #

This is another great mail art site...

wackystuff 06/10/2007 #

Partners have been assigned. Let the fun commence!

Moominbrooke 06/10/2007 #

Here's a site delineating some postal experiments...perhaps this will be inspirational...perameters expanded... http://www.directcreative.com/aaexperiments.html

wackystuff 06/10/2007 #

Thanks for the link Brooke. They certainly are weird! Some of those might be good examples of what NOT to send if you want your mail art to arrive. LOL

mcall 06/11/2007 #

I sent all six out today..Gee that was fun :)

yarnpunk 06/16/2007 #

I've sent out two- one to Lithuania and one to Germany. Four more to go! Trying not to rush as I want my mail art to rock. Thanks for hosting this swap!

yarnpunk 06/16/2007 #

You can see the two that I've sent here:

wackystuff 06/16/2007 #

Very cool cards yarnpunk. I bet they have never seen anything like that in Lithuania!

Agota 06/19/2007 #

HEY!! You'd better don't say SO! We're not from other planet, actually!! And we have lots of totally weird things.. hehe

Lithuanian girl

wackystuff 06/19/2007 #

It would be cool if we could get some TOTALLY WEIRD mail from other planets. There might be a swap idea here somewhere.

carmen 06/19/2007 #

I sent mine!

sophia 06/20/2007 #

hi there, I just received your cool piece of mail art, thanks yarnpunk.

Chaz 06/21/2007 #

Curse you wackystuff! My dining room table is in complete disarray. Bits of paper are everywhere! Has anyone seen my glue stick? I "hope" to get my stuff out on time, but we shall see.;)

Seriously, I'm having a lot of fun.I-)

Chaz

wackystuff 06/21/2007 #

I hope you don’t become unglued Chaz!

Chaz 06/22/2007 #

I sent out my stuff today, so everything is okay. :)

Thank you wackystuff for an awesome swap!

babysingsing, sparklebluefaery, Mokona, Phoenyx, dotdot, and mksht keep your eyes open!

wackystuff 06/23/2007 #

As promised, I sent out Bonus Cards to 6 speedy players who weren’t my partners.

yarnpunk 06/23/2007 #

This one was sent out to tiaragoth in the UK on Monday:

Inspired by your profile, I went for girly goth with sparkle... yes, those are purple feathers from a real feather boa sewn along the edges!

user7866 06/25/2007 #

Chaz, I just received your totally weird package today! You have no idea how much this has made my day! A ninja dojo in a box?! Awesome!! I know my mailman is jealous now.

pandagirl 06/26/2007 #

I sent my totally weird items today. I hope they aren't so totally weird that they make it to my partners.

babysingsing 06/26/2007 #

Yes, that is the risk! I hope/imagine we here all understand that -- in some ways, it's more successful mail art if it doesn't arrive! (I don't mean that. :))

yarnpunk 06/26/2007 #

Panda in Hawaii- your mail art is on the way. It's island hopping from Kodiak to Keaau! I'll post a link to the photo as soon as I get it uploaded.

Chaz 06/27/2007 #

To members of N.A.N.U. (Ninjas Allied, Ninjas United) Could someone send me a digital photo or post a photo on a link? I wasn't able to scan it before I sent it off and I want to put it next to my family pictures.

Chaz

babysingsing 06/27/2007 #

But Chaz, ninjas are STEALTHY! :)

yarnpunk 06/28/2007 #

Here is the link to the mail art I sent to Panda in Hawaii http://flickr.com/photos/spinning-on-the-edge/647283580/

Whoo hoo! I am a proud N.A.N.U. member! Here are some photos, although the photos don't do it justice.

Chaz 06/29/2007 #

Thank you Mokona! They look wonderful. I am meeting with my honored parents and I want to show them what I am up to. I am sure they will sigh and nod their heads sagely. :)

FarStarr 06/30/2007 #

Weird mail art went out today to Chaz, sparklebluefaery, mokona, Phoenyx, dotdot, and mkshft. Just a hint....liquid nails does more than just hold things together...

Moominbrooke 06/30/2007 #

Aargh! I can't send out until Monday! But it will be worth it! B

wackystuff 07/ 3/2007 #

We are past the SEND BY date and still have 4 players who have not marked their Mail Art sent. Please contact your partners if you are running late. I hope you can get caught up on the July 4th holiday.

Julz 07/10/2007 #

I loved what I got from my swap partners the outer space thing could be a winner just a note from down under Jules

user7866 07/17/2007 #

Ok, I haven't heard either way from my partners... I knew I'd have problems since three of my partners are overseas...lol Maybe customs doesn't allow my form of weirdness over!

Anyway, I'm re-sending something a little less bizarre, hopefully version 2.0 will be luckier.

FarStarr 07/19/2007 #

Did you get your card from me, Mokona?
