Description:

Have you read your way through Stephen King's Dark Tower books? Are you part way through? Or are you just starting -- these are wonderful summer reading books.

The fantastic world of Roland Deschain is full of vivid characters and adventures. When I read them, my mind becomes full of images and I'd love to share with other readers to see how we each interpret the tales.

For this swap you'll have 2 partners and create 3 ATCs for each of them. Total 6 cards -- you can send the same designs to both partners, or create 6 unique cards.

Each ATC should represent characters, situations and themes out of the Dark Tower books. You've got a lot to choose from: --The Gunslinger --The Drawing of the Three --The Wastelands --Wizard and Glass --Wolves of the Calla --Song of Susannah --The Dark Tower

Are you going to show your partner what Susannah Delgado looked like? Wouldn't Shardik and the beam make great ATCs? And how about Blaine the Train? Or Charyoutree...

Ready to join our Tet? --You must be rated 4.5 or above at Swap-bot. If you are new and not yet rated then you must 1) have a complete profile and 2)show links to pictures of your art work in your profile. If you have prior swap experience, please post in the comments thread to let me know what you've done and where.

--When partners are assigned I will remove swappers who have a recent history or 1s or 3s. If you have extenuating circumstances please contact me directly.

--Please don't sign up if you are not sure you want to participate. If you sign up, please make sure you are willing to follow through and send to your partners. If you are going to be late, please be honest with your partners and communicate IN ADVANCE -- and stay in touch until you deliver your part of the swap.

--I'm giving a long time between final sign up and final send by dates. Make sure you are sending something made with care. Pay attention to how you apply glues, etc. ATCs should be 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches and about the thickness of a playing card. If you add embellishments, please keep in mind that some people store their cards in sleeves -- so embellishments should be light and flat.

--Mark the back of your cards with your real name, your Swap-bot name, where you are from, and the title of your card (if there is one.) Any media (digital prints are totally fine) but no photocopies. Make sure digitals are good quality prints. If you make a series of the same design, please number your cards showing how many in the edition.

--THIS IS AN INTERNATIONAL SWAP -- please note that, and be willing to mail outside your home country.

I was saying to my husband that I would love to do this swap, and he said "why don't you start one..."

So I am very happy tonight to see some familiar names, and some new ones, are also into this series!

I think we are going to have awesome cards to swap!

I have been thinking of ideas for a long time for this swap, i am glad you decided to do it. i was thinking there wouldn't be enough interest. guess i should know better. I have to say, i'm a bit weird about SK. frankly, he scares the beejeebees out of me, and when we vacation in maine i'm always afraid he's going to pop out somewhere. i've even been past his house (several times, i have pictures too.) it's a long weird story of my fascination/fear of him. Sometime if i get time i'll post to my blog about it. it should be a matter of public record. i have the comic books too, does everyone know about them? it's a 7 part series, so far i have 1 and 2.

Coffeelatte 06/ 3/2007 #

I don't know about the comic books...and that's sad, because I do collect comics and comix...I'd love to go up to Maine and see his house. My mom is from Maine, and my aunt still lives there. She said his gate is a thing of bizarre beauty...I'd love to see it.

My fascination with him is long standing, too. Both my husband and I read the entire series over 2005/2006. There is so much in there that I felt like IS true and real, but sort of veiled and behind our concious understanding...Does that make sense?

PS - He has a corgi, and so do I...but I think he & his wife have the Pembroke corgi and ours is a Cardigan (with the tail...) But I've gotta like someone who has corgis...

Do you have a favorite character? Or characters?

FridaKahlo 06/ 4/2007 #

The fence is pretty cool. I will post the picture to my blog sometime. I loved Susannah for her determination and overcoming obstacles. As a physical therapist i really admire the character of a double amputee. I love Roland for his sheer oneness and focus of acheiving his goal, and the fact that he made love to a woman (Irene) just because she seemed to need it one night. That was a lovely passage. I also think for all his connection to the world in which he lived that he was kinda slow at catching on to what was really happening. That it was easier for him to just get caught up in it than actually try to change the outcome or think for himself. I loved Eddie just because, who wouldn't love Eddie. And Jake, he felt like a son to me, and oy, one of my beloved pets. So, i guess I loved them all, felt them to be members of my own family and this swap is bringing them back for a visit, and a laugh. But the thing i loved best i think, is the image of the animals holding up the beams. And that, is what i am planning on basing my ATC's on.

Coffeelatte 06/ 5/2007 #

I love the animals holding up the beams! And Oy is one of my favorite characters, so I think I will have to try to do a card for Oy. Some other things I still think about after more than a year: the grapefruit glass, shoes suddenly appearing in the road, & Charyoutree.

I think I also have to do the door appearing on the beach (my favorite place in the world)...but I'm not so sure I want to try to represent those hideous lobstrocities.

FridaKahlo 06/ 7/2007 #

I was showing at a local art show last september and the guy next to me had abstract art, and i had to ask if he'd read dark tower cause the one picture looked just like a "lobstrosity" i stared at it all day. I have also considered the doors as a focal point, doors that actually open, i have a few pictures that i could use, just trying to figure out the mechanics.
one time i got an atc for a swap on couples, and it was a ver nice atc, but i didn't see a couple. it was six months before i realized that it had a door that opened!! thre was the couple, duh me.

Oh man, I wish I was talented at drawing! I'm very creative in alot of ways but unfortunately, I am not the greatest artist....I love your swap idea though, I'm a huge fan of Stephen King and especially the Dark Tower series!!!!! It's true what you said about all the images that arise in one's mind while reading those books, they are the greatest books I've ever read, my all time favorites!! I'd love to be able to see what people come up with for drawings on this. If I was a good artist I'd join the swap but I'm not so I won't, but I wanted to give you props for a great swap idea!!!! Maybe sometime you'll do a different Dark Tower swap that doesn't involve me having to draw pictures LOL

Coffeelatte 06/24/2007 #

I sent you a pm, Angeldiva...and just wanted to let everyone know that any method of making your ATCs is fine for this swap. I wish I could draw everything that the books inspire in my imagination...but I'm not that good...and it is totally fine if your ATCs for this swap are collaged (paper or digital), or drawn, painted, whatever...it's up to the artist what they want to use to create!
