Description:

Are you a spinner or felter, knitter or weaver? Going to a local fiber festival this summer? Then join this swap! There are so many great places to find interesting fiber these days why not share something you find either at a festival, local shop or online store with someone far away (or close by). And wouldn't you love to be surprised by some luscious fiber in the mail! We are sending 4oz. of fiber (please see look to see if your swap partner has any preferences). Financially-you should plan around $20 for your package. You are welcome to add any other "goodies" you think partner might enjoy, but it is not required. I have seen beautiful heathered wool/silk blends for $15 at festivals! Signups are open until June 21. Packages to be mailed out by August 31. Be as creative as you like. You don't have to be a blogger to be part of this, but if you don't have one leave your preferences here so your partner will know what fibers you love to play with. Me, I'm a spinner that loves to knit with all the loveliness in my closet. You can be a first time swapper here, but if you have used swapbot before you must have a 4.0 rating or higher to join. This is an international swap. I'll be posting updates on my blog throughout the summer to lead you to great fiber sites or participants' blog updates. This is a great way to find ideas and other fiber enthusiasts!

How much fiber are we talking about???

debaccuardi 06/ 3/2007 #

I'm sorry I didn't think to add the amount. 4oz is what I usually buy. Thanks! I'll put that in the description.

I do have a blog (url is on my profile), but here are my preferences just in case: I LOVE spinning all natural fibers with the exception of cotton. As far as wool, BFL, Merino, or Corriedale are faves... also love alpaca and silk! I'm pretty easy to please, so if you see something that looks luscious and spinnable, I'm sure I will love it!

Jensenaddict 06/12/2007 #

Hi Deb,

this is Chrissie (your former downstream secret pal). Just wanted to say hi. I join this and just started a Creative Handmade Drop Spindle swap, timed to end around the same time as this. Sure would be nice to use the new spindles to spin this new fiber!

debaccuardi 06/12/2007 #

That's a great idea Chrissie! I also want to encourage all the new to Swapbot ladies to fill out your profile and leave some fiber ideas here. My area's Summer fiber fest is coming up fast--Black Sheep Gathering on June 24th. Have any of you checked out your area yet? I know one lady here has her own sheep! Anyone else?

Melanie 06/13/2007 #

Hi Deb, I found this swap through Cary and just had to sign up. I hand paint roving, so I'm thinking of swapping one of those. Also should we include some goodies too?

sylverstarz17 06/13/2007 #

I'm a newbie and I'm excited to participate. I've never spun before but I plan on trying it sometime in the near (hopefully) future, so if I get any kind of fiber for that then I'll be ready to go when the time arrives. I also knit and crochet so if any of those spinners out there would like to send me some of their own handspun I would LOVE it as well! I'm not picky- I love and appreciate everything. Can't wait to start!

debaccuardi 06/14/2007 #

If people want to include other goodies they think their partner might enjoy please feel free! But if that is something you can't afford the minimum is to include 4oz of fiber. I know I will be finding lots of goodies at the fiber festival I'm attending at the end of the month! Hand painted roving sounds wonderful Melanie! I'm happy we have newbies too--what a great way to get started!

I just degreased some lovely wool that will be perfect to send! I am mainly a felter so felting fibers are my preference. Thanks for the great swap!

user8542 06/15/2007 #

I am a beginning spinner who loves the new wool that I've washed/degreased...it is such a pretty Rambouillet/Targhee mix. I also love merino, cashmere, mohair--honestly, I love almost anything, just not much of a 'novelty' yarn/fiber person. I like to knit using finer weight yarn, but have a use for anything...I've been dying to make some soft socks, so if my partner happened to see anything...grin No really, I'm easy to please, it is so nice to see other people care about the same things that I do!

Suzanne 06/16/2007 #

Oh my god, Deb Accuardi!!! I've "known" you in the blog world forever. Holy crap! (Mostly via the original RAOK ring...back when it was 50 people.)

My spinning preferences are very silly, indeed. I'm a rank beginner who really has only worked with merino right now. I'm willing to branch out and try whatever, although long staple lengths seem to be a good idea for me. There is info about my wheel in my profile if you want to know!

Also, please, no purple. Nothing with purple of any sort, please please please. It will make me sad to spin.

user8854 06/16/2007 #

I will post my preferences on my blog, too, but just in case someone doesn't find the blog ~ I want to say that I love anything, as long as it is fiber - LOL! Colorful, natural color ~ doesn't matter. I guess I should say I am not fond of "neppy" fibers, that give the "textured" yarn...also, I like alpaca but seem to have a lot of it on hand, so maybe no alpaca?

Hope that doesn't sound to particular ;) I am sure I will be happy with whatever I get and will have fun getting to know my "swap" partner!

I am so excited! This is my first swap and I am looking forward to figuring all of this out. This is going to be so much fun!

I enjoy spinning, knitting, crocheting and designing just about anything. Some of my favorite fibers are cashmere, alpaca, soft cotton, super wash merino wool, sock yarn and pretty much anything else that is a soft and a natural fiber. I like just about any muted colors, but my favorite colors are blue and purple.

Suzanne 06/18/2007 #

I see a lot of knitters finding this swap. Another great swap that I'd love to see more people in is the I Love Sock Yarn Swap.

I'm not hosting it...just a participant!

debaccuardi 06/18/2007 #

Hi Suzanne! Great to see your name again as well:) I saw that swap on your profile and had to join.
I think this is going to be a great swap--when we get closer to the send date I'll open a Flickr group so we can all see what everyone has received. I think we are going to see some really different and creative packages. And maybe later some finished project pics?

Jensenaddict 06/20/2007 #

Can anyone recommend any online fiber source? I tried one last night and was charged C$28 for international airmail for 4oz of roving (though even if I had ordered more the shipping would be the same) ... am now thinking of maybe sending direct to my partner ... let's see when it gets here.

Hey, please join my Creative homemade handspindle swap? Don't know how to make spindles? Have a go, it's fun. I have only been spinning off and on the last few years, but I actually use my homemade spindles more often than my exotic wood ones.

Suzanne 06/21/2007 #

Ghostknitter, I would recommend checking through Etsy for Canadian sellers. I just bought roving from a Canuck, and I cannot wait to get my loot!

AngrySpinner 06/21/2007 #

www.paradisefibers.net (Which happens to also be local to me, here, in eastern WA) has all kinds of luscious fibers. --Jen aka Angry Spinner

debaccuardi 06/22/2007 #

Today is the last day to sign up for the swap. To celebrate the beginning I posted some of my favorite fiber shopping sites on my blog. There is a link in the swap description. You will receive your partners tomorrow. Please remember if you haven't filled out your profile and don't have a blog please leave your preferences here. I know we all want to send a package that will be loved:)

Jensenaddict 06/23/2007 #

Hi,

I only spin on drop spindles, and so far have only spun fully processed roving/top since I don't own a drumcarder or wheel. I would love hand painted silk merino or similar blends which would be nice for a shawl, my favourite colors are lime green, blues, mauves, pinks.

I can't believe who I have to sent to!

sylverstarz17 07/ 6/2007 #

jenknits has got a package on the way! Enjoy!

myrrhmaid 07/18/2007 #

Chrissie, I sent your package out yesterday. I hope you LOVE it!!! I vaccuum sealed the wool so it fit nicely in a large envelope. I also added a couple felting needles. I will be putting a tutorial online for felting. Right now I have a dye tut. if anyone would like to see it at http://www.freewebs.com/myrrhmaid I will be adding some pictures of the dolls I felt plus some pics of the wool I sent. So only go see it, Chrissie, if you want to see the pics of what you are getting before it gets there! Have a cool summer! Happy swappin' everybodee!

Melanie 08/ 8/2007 #

myrrhmaid 10/ 9/2007 #

Yes, she has deleted her account so i guess that means I won't be getting anything either! That really sucks! her username was Bak Aurelie Mimii27 and she was from france. I hope I don't see her around here anymore. I have a mind like an elephant. I will remember. Do we have a list of flakes somewhere I can add her too?
