Description:

I've always wanted to try new crafts but it's a bit daunting and I really just don't know where to start. I know there are others in the same boat, so doing this swap might help us craft newbies (or not such newbies) expand our horizons!

The idea for this swap is exactly as the title suggests - teach me what you do best. Put together a little package to show your partner a new craft (note down what craft you've not tried or one you'd like to learn more of in your profile, but it's really senders choice, since they are the 'teacher'). The more detailed you can be the better, but the idea is to create an entire DIY pack. So if I was to teach someone to do a scrapbook page, I'd draw a picture - or include a photo - of what the finished product should look like, and put in the pack everything my partner will need to creat it - layout, card, stickers and all (and instructions!). Another example is a dotee doll, you would add a patern, material, thread (probably nothing sharp like pins though...), everything your partner would need to make her. This way we can all try our hand at something new (or not so new) and if we like it, we can continue. I think it'd be a nice idea to show your partner once you've completed it also.

Newbies are welcome, because I am one, but please only people serious about learning and teaching crafts. No flakers please!! I will angel if needed, but in all honesty, you are probably better than me, so hopefully others will be willing to angel also ;) No one's or three's recently without my approval.

This is the first ever swap I've created, so please let me know if I've missed anything, or if there is something I can change to make it better. All input is appreciated.

This is a great idea! Signing up now. I'd LOVE to have someone teach me how to make a dotee doll :0)

good idea

loved it

The thing I do best of all is make soap. Is anyone going to want to learn that or should I go for a regular craft?

Cheeseburger 10/31/2009 #

Loricritt if you are sending to me I'd love to learn how to make soap, what a fantastic idea!

I am watching this right now but I'll be teaching cross-stitch and embroidery. More then likely provide instructions and little examples. I'll send along some materials and patterns to get you started as well.

I think most people like step by step instructions with pictures?

Motmugje 11/ 3/2009 #

Step by step is handy and clear, but extra instructions can always be asked by mail, I think.

My idea is a sewing-project, and there are some great tutorials on the web. I'll adjust them a bit and sent in. But if someone would prefer a felt-flower over a sewing project, that is possible too! It's my second best ;) And learning to make soap would be wonderful.

The hardest part about teaching the soap would be the materials. I can't ship lye in the mail. But I could also give instructions on some melt and pour projects. Some make great Xmas gifts.

I'm not super terrific at sewing but it's about the ONLY crafty thing I am able to do. Watching for now, as I need to be sure I'm capable of teaching. If yes, I'll teach my partner how to sew some brooches and the stitches needed.

Ooh, since loricritt mentioned making soap, would it be alright if I did chapstick? I'd include all of the tubes and ingredients :)

Cheeseburger 11/ 9/2009 #

Chapstick sounds good to me!

Virou 11/14/2009 #

There are lots of things I'd like to learn, for example cardmaking, scrapbooking, dotee dolls or anything to do with paper =)

I've got a list on my profile of crafts I do and ones I would like to learn. This is a great idea for a swap!

I think this is a great idea for a swap! I just signed up (I know....I know...last day....) but I am really excited to teach someone how to make a card or maybe a matchbox!

@dynasourX .. chapstick is a great idea! I didn't know you could make that yourself. Well, I mean, I guess you have to be able to make it at home since all commerical stuff was pretty much made at home at one time or another...but I have never met anyone who makes it themselves! I would love to learn that.

I'm eager to learn and happy to share what I know too. I haven't listed specific crafts that I'd like to learn because every project is a learning experience - no matter what the field. I'm most comfortable teaching greeting card or doll making.

My homemade FELT doughnut kit is being mailed out today!

If I haven't gotten one in yet should I be worried?
