Description:

The Red Cross is hosting their annual Holiday Mail for Heroes. I thought this would be a great swap for the members of Swap-bot to show support for the many servicemen and women who are serving our country.

In this swap you will have 1 partner. You will send them a note card or a holiday card if you wish, along with your stamped holiday card for the service member. You might have to send both cards in one larger envelope. Your partner will then drop that card in the mail when they receive it. I thought it would be an easy way to know that the cards are being sent out.

Today over 1.4 million men and women serve in the U.S. armed forces and over 24 million veterans have served in the past. The holiday season is the perfect time to honor and extend a warm holiday greeting to those who’ve served and continue to do so.

Here are some guidelines from the Red Cross regarding what we can and cannot send:

Do...

Sign all cards

Entitle cards “Dear Service Member, Family or Veteran”

Limit cards to 15 per person or 50 for school class or business group

Bundle groups of cards in single, large envelopes

Don’t...

Send letters

Include personal information such as home or email addresses

Use glitter – excessive amounts can aggravate health issues of wounded recipients

Include inserts of any kind as they must be removed in the screening process

The address you need to put on the envelope is:

Holiday Mail for Heroes P.O. Box 5456 Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

I am leaving this open to those of you who have at least a 4.8 with no recent 1's or 3's, and for newbies as long as you have a filled out profile. (It's not hard and takes no time at all.)

Let's all show our support!

OK, I am just a little confused...Does the "greeting" go on the inside of the card, or above the address on the outside of the envelope?

IssueGirl 11/ 6/2009 #

You will write a little note to the service member on the inside of the card. The envelope needs to be addressed to the Holiday Mail for Heroes and also needs to be stamped. That envelope, along with whatever you want to send your partner (note card or holiday card) needs to go in a larger envelope, which will se sent to your partner. So 3 envelopes total. Sorry if it seemed a little confusing.

is this okay for a church group to do?

Nannie - Yes by all means! :) You can bundle them in large envelopes to send out if you wish. Visit RedCross.org for more info. Just click on Holiday Mail for Heroes.

Basset - That's great that he'll be home for the holidays! I wish him a safe return :)

Planning to do this, but I have to drop to "watch" status until it's closer, just because of my swap numbers. :)

IssueGirl 11/ 8/2009 #

No problem :)
