Description:

LYS yarns too pricey with the holidays so near? Need to add to your Luxury Yarn Stash but have no money? Think Green:D

Well, one way is to repurpose. For this swap, you HAVE to repurpose or make everything!!

For an international version of Green Knitters Club! Hosted by @zilliah :) go here.

Swap Requirements;

  1. Green Yarn - Ideas ;
Frog a natural fiber sweater into balls of yarn. Yes, for $2 you can have enough wool to make on average 3 scarfs or 6 pairs of fingerless mitts! Look for sweaters, that are knit in the round or have self seams ( uncut). Most commercial sweaters will com apart in front, back and two sleeves, please make them into individual balls.
    Make Plarn
Or make Fabric Yarn from scrap/worn fabrics.
Or even spin your own! Wool, llama, bison to dog and cat hair to veg cotton/cattails and soy! All can be spun:D

  2. Make a really cute Bamboo Chopstick Knitting Needle Tutorial or find a used one to send. Craftster Ideas Etsy Ideas

  3. Make or thrift a small project bag. It can be as simple as a fabric drawstring bag, a thrifted sheet or patchwork bag or even a small scrap yarn felted bag ! Here are a few links to get you started; Aussie Inspiration More sewn bags Knit Bag

  4. One knitting related thrifted / reused or handmade item. Sure you could add a few hand made stitch markers, a shrink film needle gauge, homemade measuring tape, even a DPN pouch ( perhaps make a set of 5 from bamboo skewers!) Or do you make lotions/ soaps etc? How about something to tuck into your knitting bag? Perhaps a travel mug or book or magazine from a used bookstore or your shelf!

This swap should be inexpensive and fun:D Enjoy!

Due to import/ export laws regarding reused fabric and animal/plant products, this swap is US only.

To join public swaps I host Γ’β‚¬β€œ a minimum of 10 real swaps (not email or postcards) rated 4.8 or better, and no 1Ò€ℒs or three's in the last 6 months.

Oh shoot! USA only? Maybe you can invite Canada? :)

Sarah90 12/ 2/2009 #

Just to clarify - we send one thing from each numbered point you made? one type of yarn, one pair of needles, one bag, and one knitting related thing?

LadyStephanie 12/ 2/2009 #

This swap is way cool, Pavla! You are becoming quite the swap hostess supreme :)

I love making t-shirt yarn. Knit it up with some chop sticks...voila! Watching for now.

Pavla 12/ 2/2009 #

There are four mandatory elements to this swap. Yarn, some kind of needles, a project bag and one knitting related item.

@LadyStephanie Thank you, I like ,,, unusual swaps:D So many interesting things to swap :D

@Sarah90 I am not 'territorial' about swaps,,, go ahead and start one for Canadians:D Or if anyone else wishes to host for their area. Link this swap to yours and I will do the same:D

Sarah90 12/ 2/2009 #

@Pavla Thanks! I may do that (after I'm not a noob anymore!) Excellent idea though!

zilliah 12/ 3/2009 #

Oooh, please invite canada!

zilliah 12/ 3/2009 #

Otherwise, would you host or let me host an international one? This is a wonderful swap idea!

Pavla 12/ 3/2009 #

@zilliah Go for it ! :D ( see comment above)

There's now an international version here!

aberdeenbarb 12/ 5/2009 #

I have already purchased a sweater; it took me an entire evening to dismantle it! I have six balls of yarn to work with now!!

Amblnc38 12/ 6/2009 #

I love the idea but I have never been able to dismantle a sweater without breaking into hives and having choppy yarn.

aberdeenbarb 02/ 1/2010 #

You really have to look hard at thrift store sweaters to find the kind that can be unraveled into large balls. I've used my "wrong choices" to crochet amigurumis, because they are small and I can hide the knots inside.
