Description:

Since we all love paper, lets make our own! Handmade paper has such a wonderful look and texture that you can't find anywhere else and looks great on ATC's and other projects. You can add all kinds of interesting things, such as flowers or leaves or not, its up to you!

There are many tutorials for handmade paper on the internet, but here's a few to get you started:

http://www.exploratorium.edu/exploring/paper/handmade.html

http://www.pioneerthinking.com/makingpaper.html

You will have 3 partners each and send a minimum of one 8x10 inches sheet OR four pieces, each piece at least 4x5 inches to each partner. OR you can send 2 pieces that are 4x10 inches each, etc, however you want to do it, just so it equals out to at least one 8x10 sheet. And if you send pieces, none can be any smaller than 4x5 inches.

You can get four 4x5 inch pieces out of an 8x10 sheet by cutting it into fourths or two 4x10 inch pieces by cutting it in half. This way, the minimum amount you will be making will only be 3 full 8x10 sheets, but also leaves room for sending/getting a good variety. You may send more if you wish but you must send at least the minimum.

This is for all beginner or expert paper makers. Even if you've never done it before, you can still get great results with very little effort. You will be surprised how easy and fun it is! Be creative and have fun with it! Handmade paper isn't supposed to look "perfect", but make sure to send something you would like to receive yourself!

Everyone in the group should qualify for this swap. But, I will check profiles before assigning partners and ban anyone that might affect the integrity of the swap to protect all participants.

Watching... I'll have to see if I can come up with enough scraps for another batch of paper before then. Either than or I'm going to have to completely re-organize my stash to find the remenants of the last batch I made.

panda, you can also use junk mail or old newspapers. I saw some made with newspapers and food coloring that looked awesome!

Nice link, Katarina! I would love to see your work!

I picked up some of the handmade paper tags at Walmart left over from Christmas that has seeds in and you can plant them! They are really cool. And they were on clearance, lol!

small note: if you include seeds in your paper you should probably not send international, it will be seized by customs. I've seen stationery like that though, it's a cool idea.

I don't know if you can do it in a blender, (I doubt it since it has to be beaten for upwards of 8 hours) but with the giant professional pulp-beater thing we had you can make paper out of cloth, so I did a batch from denim that my partners will be getting some of. I printed these ATCs on denim paper that I splattered with ordinary white pulp to make clouds.

Katarina, you are one talented artist!

A professional pulp-beater? I want one.......LOL!

I didn't realize that about the seeds! Thanks for informing us!

I also noticed in this month's "Crafts n Things" magazine, they have an article about making handmade paper in it. I haven't had a chance to read it yet,but the pics are awesome, :)

Yeah I am very lucky to have access to the university's equipment ^_^
The beater does some 15 gallons of pulp at once.

my papermaking kit lets me use my blender without any trouble which is nice.
