Description:

This is a Secret Santa swap, because I love Secret Santa! US Only because some folks struggle with postage costs.

Secret Santa is a game that is often played in office workplaces, and is frequently played over a week's time. In my office we give very small/inexpensive presents the first four days of the week, and then the "real" gift is presented at a potluck lunch on Friday. Different groups will surely have different variations on the theme.

Since our game will be played through the mail, it's not really practical to send multiple packages. However, you could get into the week-long spirit by anonymously sending e-cards, links to online craft patterns in your partner's favorite crafty theme, a greeting card a few days in advance of your package, etc. None of these suggestions are required for the swap; they are merely suggestions to help you and your partner have a little extra fun with the theme.

The premise is simple: you will have 1 partner. Read their profile, and send them a Secret Santa gift tailored to their profile. Plan to spend about $10 (at Christmas time people don't have too much money floating around, but we want to send a nice swap). You can make items or add more if you like but not required. But please include a holiday card so we can put it up with the others :)

The prerequisites: sorry - this one is a bit strict since we all want to get our gift. Must have at least 5 ratings of 5 and no 1's in the last 2 months. At least two of your 5 ratings must be on swaps with at least $10 value threshold. If you feel you have been rated unfairly, PM me to discuss.

You'll have your partner assigned before Shopping Friday, and a mail date of December 8 should ensure everyone gets their packages by Christmas.

Happy Holidays and Happy Swapping :)

Thanks to Kris for allowing me to steal her fabulous idea!

Just to clarify, since I have had many questions already:

I will not delete anyone from the swap until it is time to assign partners, so you may sign up now if you like. You have plenty of time between now and November 20 to join enough swaps to meet the requirements. If you do not meet the swap requirements at the time signups close, I will remove you at that time.

Yes, I'm a senior who has never been involved in a Secret Santa swap. Are there any specific details that I should be aware of? Discussion please? Thanks. Joan

KnittingCateling 09/11/2007 #

Wow. I can't believe that 100 of you all want to play Secret Santa!! Just as a reminder, there is still plenty of time for people to bring up their ratings in order to play. I won't do any bans until the time comes to assign partners - but if you feel you have extenuating circumstances, please contact me with your concerns starting Nov 10. Thanks!

grandmaroro 09/12/2007 #

Awww, come on, info please. Is there any more involved than giving a gift but not telling the receipent who sent it? If I need to know more, won't someone please save me some embarrassment??? Joan

crweixelman 09/13/2007 #

Grandma, you've pretty much got the idea! You can tell the recipient who you are, but not prior to sending the gift.

KnittingCateling 09/14/2007 #

Sorry Grandma Roro!

Secret Santa is a game that is often played in office workplaces, and is frequently played over a week's time. Thanks for asking your question! I'm going to update the swap with the optional ideas I've outlined above.

Just wanted to warn you that if you are sending to or receiving from ueris, she's bailed out of my last two swaps and left her partners with NOTHING (be she's received).

KnittingCateling 10/25/2007 #

This swap has gotten to be larger than I ever imagined - which is nice and not nice. :)

If you would like to help me with managing the questionable swappers, please post a link to the thread right here in the comments. Some people have been sending their heads-up to me in PMs. While I appreciate this, managing the PMs on this system leaves a bit to be desired. It would be easier for me to have them all here on the comments to the swap.

Please rest assured that I want this to be a good experience for everyone, and anyone with a rating below around 4.5 will be automatically excluded. It some of the people who have just begun to decline, or hopped over from other sites that are more difficult for me to identify.

Thanks for your help!

Hi there! bellasong and Nancy both have 1.0 and all no sends. They haven't logged on in weeks also.

Paula 11/14/2007 #

Grandmaroro, what I do in these online Secret Santa things is to research my partner. If they've got a link to a website or a blog in their profile, I check there. For people who don't have much in their profile, I try doing searches, such as on Google, on their name. You can usually find out enough about someone to come up with a decent gift idea.

If you want to have a little extra fun, go to one of the sites that has e-cards and send your partner something fun. There are a lot of places where you can sign up for an anonymous email account and you can email that way.

~ yarnpie ~ I send you a thousand 'thank yous' for my awesome goodies! :) It's perfect!

JudyP 12/ 6/2007 #

In the spirit of Secret Santa, I'm not looking to see who my sender is yet, but wanted to say thanks. I've had a day, and when I got home and checked the mail there was an envelope from my Secret Santa. It said "Look for More, Have a great week!" on the envelope, so I went ahead and opened it, finding a card and a gorgeous silver snowflake ornament. Thanks! You made my day!

Paula 12/ 8/2007 #

I tried to hold out until closer to Christmas, but I just couldn't. Here is a picture of what I got from Wendy.
