Description:

This is a great swap for those who like to alter items. For this swap you will start with a doll from somewhere (dollar stores dolls, barbies, thrift finds, beringers, etc) It can be new or old, big or small, hanging or sitting, etc. You get to decide what your doll looks like and how she starts. Then add gesso, paint, gels, stains, fabric, clay, hair, and/or anything else you can imagine to make your art doll. Give it a personality. Have fun.

No paper dolls though you can use paper to alter your dolls.

Please look at your partners profile for inspiration, though it is senders choice on style of doll. Art Dolls are not to play with-not intended for children.

5 swaps under your belt to participate in this one. Us and Canada only. No recent no sends. Flaking is just rude.......and Flakers will be outed! Please do not become a FLAKE.

Leave helpful art doll tips, websites or tutorials below.

You can remove the face of a doll with fingernail polish remover. Lightly sanding a doll, makes it better for paint to adhere to. Using a primer under your paint is a great option, especially if you are changing skin tone to say blue

On my watchlist for now, but I'm sure I'll sign up! I've been itching to make an altered doll, it's been too long! :)

I have always wanted to do some altered dolls and bought the books and even have some doll bodies to work with but just never got there. This swap will give me the push to get one done. Maybe I can keep going from there.

All it takes is one, then you either hate the process or will fall in love with making them.

I hope more people join up instead of just watching. I think this will be a really great swap! I am already working on my doll getting the base ready.

I'm excited about this swap also. I think people will sign up closer to the date. I just list swaps early so people can plan for them if they are interested.

I love dolls! This is something I haven't done yet. Usually I just make handmade rag type dolls. Some of them get wild hair colors. Would making new hair and clothing be enough alteration?...(for if I can join one in the future) I'm a newby...so I'll be watching ya! I could have so much fun with this art style!! Linda

will we get to see pics?

wolfeagle 02/ 5/2010 #

@yarnmamma If you search google for altered art doll you will see so many different types and styles that will give you an idea of what an altered doll is. Just adding colored hair on a ragdoll that you made would not constitue an altered doll.

OMG , i guess I am too old school , I am used to fixing them up! like yarnmamma . I was thinking like on the cartoon Toy story when I first read the swap. .I did as you said and googled pics .wow too far out of my league . have fun though . i'll keep looking at images maybe something will inspire me.

You absolutely MUST rehost this swap again, after April. I would love to be able to participate then.

wolfeagle 03/ 1/2010 #

I plan to. See you next time around.

Whiskers 03/ 8/2010 #

Please let me know if you rehost this swap. I would be interested in doing a second doll.

Where do we go to see pics of the ones swapped here?
