(Picture taken by and used with permission from Monica Solorio-Snow (The Happy Zombie)) A while ago, I stumbled across the Pennie Pockets tutorial on the Happy Zombie blog. After making a set as a Valentines Day surprise for my husband, I was hooked. The Happy Zombie's blog entry about them can be found here: Happy Zombie - Blog Archive - Pennie Pockets What is a "Pennie Pocket" you ask? Well, to quote the Happy Zombie site, pennie pockets are 'little pennant pockets of happiness.' They are little cone-shaped fabric constructions that are designed and ironed to look like pennants (what some people might call bunting.) Look up pennie pockets on Flickr and you should find plenty of examples. If you follow the Happy Zombie tutorial found here, you will end up with 4 pockets in all. Thus, it's easy to send 3 to other swappers and have one left for yourself! That is 1 pocket for each of 3 partners, plus 1 left over for you. To make one set of pennie pockets will require 4 fabrics that are 9" by 13 1/2" -- See the pdf file for instructions on how to cut and piece the fabrics to end up with 4 pockets. Then let the fun begin... Decorate those pockets as you see fit! Add beads to the bottom point, use the yoyos as the pattern describes, or use felt shapes instead. Add buttons or ribbons! Or if you like to keep things plain, simply make the pockets in whatever beautiful fabrics you choose. That's right, the pennie pockets are senders-choice in terms of fabric colors and decorations. Ideas for earning hearts? Look at your partner's profile for things they like.... find a little something to tuck into the pennie pocket as a surprise! Requirements: Please have a rating of 4.5 or above if you wish to join this swap. No recent 1s without a good explanation. I would like this swap to be newbie friendly, but please make sure your profile is fully filled out. Pennie pockets are not large items, so shipping should not be too expensive. We'll make this an International swap. Also, please feel free to message me with any questions you may have! I haven't hosted a lot of swaps yet, so I might overlook something that should be mentioned. |
