Description:

WHAT: Loteria Ornament

DO's: Let's respect copyright laws. You must use authentic loteria cards, tablas, wrapping paper or fabric. You can use any commercially-available brand available in the US or Mexico; e.i. you don't have to use Don Clemente (Gacela, Leo, Birjan, Zarela, Villegas, Sosa-Noriega, Alexander Henry and other brands are all OK).

DON'T's: Don't print images off the internet. Don't use photocopies. Don't make your own interpretations of images (that will be another swap).

NOTE: You do not have to use the whole card. It's ok if you want to cut out images & use them without the number & label.

HOW MANY: You'll make a total of 3 ornaments; you'll send 1 ornament to each of 3 partners.

EXPECTATION: Pretty high. These should be really nice works of art.

WHO: No one rated less than 4.5 rating; no one with any "no-sends"; newbies welcome, but please message me first.

WHERE: International.

RATINGS: If you get an ornament featuring an authentic lotería image, please give a high rating even if it isn't exactly to your taste. If the ornament is extra special, please feel free to give a heart.

CAVEAT SWAPTOR: If I've forgotten something, please send me a gentle reminder. Thanks!

Here are some examples I found online, just to give you some ideas:

These are magnets, but something similar with a loop and hook could be an ornament:

Hi. I'm very interestred in your swap. However, none of your three provided links work. The first one goes to a pic, but there is no loteria image in it. The other two say "not found". Can you give more examples of what you mean so I'll know whether to sign up for this?

Thank you.

¡%^$*#&! Sorry! I'm not sure why those Etsy links won't work. If you go to Etsy.com and do a search for LOTERIA ORNAMENT and for LOTERIA MAGNET, you'll see some things that might inspire you.

The first link (to Flickr) should be a cupboard full of bright dishes... and on the knob to the right is a loteria ornament (El Nopal). If you do a search on Flickr for LOTERIA ORNAMENT you'll find a couple.

Here are some ideas: Embellish 2 loteria cards that are back-to-back; Decoupage a round ornament w/ loteria cards; Use a small matchbox to make an ornament; Use a "card" from the A. Henry fabric and make a quilted ornament; Put a loteria card on each side of a cube that you can hang from a corner.

Also, if you do a Google search on making ornaments from old holiday cards, many of those ideas can be used w/ loteria cards.

Hope that helps!

I made two loteria ornaments last year. One I sent as a gift and the other is in one of my MANY "Christmas" bins and boxes. (I LOVE Christmas. Last year I decorated our big front window like the store window displays that I saw in New York. I had three white trees and lots of lights and garlands and then outside I put deer and light trees underneath the window. It was a big hit. You could see the cars slowing down to get a better look.)

I'm sure your loteria ornaments are wonderful. And your Xmas display sounds great too. Have you posted any photos?

A couple of people have asked about where to buy authentic Lotería games, wrapping paper, fabric and such.

eBay and Etsy are good places to look -- just search for « loteria ».

If you have a local Mexican Supermarket in your area you can find loteria there too --- ie' Fiestas or some local "carniceria" or market !

First timer for ornaments or loteria but I'm giving this a shot because it sounds like so much fun. Plus, the card graphics are so interesting - how can I mess up? :)

I'm gonna be late and mail my ornament on the 31st or the 1st. Please accept my apologies for the delay. Been working on the ornaments nearly every night in the past couple of weeks, hand-sewing, creweling, stamping and beading. I'm almost done but at 12:35 a.m local time I'm just too tired to do the final beading, trimming and packing.

BadKitty, KansasKate and nancyflamingo - yours are on their way. Enjoy!

GemMedia, TiaBel and Eonsmomma - sent your ornaments today, hope they reach you shortly.

Is there anything more lame than being late on a swap I am hosting? I doubt it.

The project I'm working on is taking 60-80 hours/week, making Swap-Bot, Flickr, shopping and hobbies a thing of the past. (Laundry and housework are also on hold, though I don't miss them!)

I will not flake on anyone, but I'm going to be really late on my swaps, and for that I am truly sorry.

abrazo, Kate
