Description:

Collect TRASH from your car, a parking lot, your office trash baskets, the floor at the mall, wherever you can find it. Cover a postcard with the most interesting bits. Be sure to secure them well enough to survive the mail (although accidental damage through the post is part of the fun).

Make 3 postcards, and send one to each partner.

PLEASE USE GOOD JUDGMENT AND DON'T SEND ANYTHING WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY UNSAFE.

NO - scrapbooking embellishment doo-dads

NO - cigarette butts

NO - medical waste

NO - food, gum, or anything else sticky

There may be smudges, there may be rips and tears, there may be things that >gasp< other people have touched. If you are fastidious or squeamish, please consider that carefully before joining this swap.

This card will probably be gritty and in-your-face. It's TRASH. If you want to use things like paper punches and artful arranging to make your trash look good, alright. But please don't add anything that isn't trash or strictly necessary to secure the trash to the card. No bending the rules to slip in a pretty scrapbook embellishment doodad.

I will also be creating a "Pretty Trash PC" swap where there is a deliberate attempt to make the trash look pretty. Non-trash items still prohibited, but some art supplies like pencil and paint will be allowed. If you're interested, please consider signing up for both swaps and comparing the results.

This card is "senders choice". If you get a timely card with trash on it, please give that sender a "5" rating.

Do we mail them as postcards or keep the backs blank so the partner can forward them on to whom ever they choose?

BetsyPreston 03/27/2010 #

Mail em! Part of the fun will be to see how well the unprotected "trash" travels.

If someone wants to re-send it, either write a new address in bigger blacker marker over the old one (a friend of mine does this with vintage postcards and it looks really interesting), or paste labels or new paper over the previous address.

I mail all kinds of crazy stuff: nalgene bottles, 5 gallon buckets, a magnetic postcard with a fabric fortune cookie tied to it with a 6" ribbon, fabric postcards by the hundreds, and they always seem to arrive safely. But I hear stories from other people around the country about their post offices refusing to send or deliver anything out of the ordinary. It boggles my mind! I've been to 10+ post offices all over my city. I've run across a few grumps, but nothing has ever been refused and the postal workers are usually amused by the crazy stuff.

Still, it's not a bad idea to check with your post office if you think they might have objections.

i have everything odd come back, but if i can send it in a envie i wanna join, i made some funny looking ones

AmandaNico1987: sher, go ahead and use an envelope if you've had a history of trouble with your post office.

In general, tho, these should fly "naked". If they get more "trashed", well..."yea"!

AmandaNico1987 04/ 7/2010 #

LOL! i TRIED to mail sand to a Ladyin FL. She told me she wanted something ODD for her birthday. it was kind of a GAG lol!. I put 3 stamps on it. PLENTY enough it only needed one. and COMPLETLY did not even touch it, i sent it on a monday, it came back on a wend. LOL!

AmandaNico1987 04/ 7/2010 #

When are we getting our partners?

BetsyPreston 04/ 7/2010 #

Thanks for the sand story detail! Swap registration is open through Saturday, April 10th. The earliest I could assign partners is at midnight first thing Sunday, April 11th. More likely I'll get around to it after I get out of bed that morning.

My "cards" went postal. They are, well, kinda weird cuz they are ALL trash - no cardstock. There was a huuuuuuge line at the post office (I think cuz of tax day). I used the self-service postal machine instead of waiting in line for an hour. I'm confident that I paid the right amount of postage, but I'm not sure how the weirdness will travel through the system.

LOL i sent mine ALONG time ago...i am um wondering why no one has received them?
