Description:

Do you love ATCs?

Do you love fabric, sewing and embellishments?

Then this is the swap for you!

1) Make 1 fabric ATC to send to each partner (a total of 2 ATCs).

2) Fabric ATCs are 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches, include a piece of fabric, one sided fusible batting, and a cardstock backing. You may also use a stiff fusible, a fabric backing and write on it with permanent fabric marker.

3) Fabric ATCs are hand or machine sewn (patchwork, appliqué, thread painting, beadwork, buttons, charms, embellish them to your heart’s content or not).

4) Be sure to write the following on the back, the name and number of the ATC, date made, artist name and location (e.g. Cat #1, May 2010, Sassy Susie, Stanton, South Dakota).

5) This monthly swap is the sender’s choice, no themes, but looking at your partners’ profiles to see what they have a passion for is advised. Enjoy letting your creative juices flow!

6) Be sure to include a note with the name of this swap and your Swap-bot ID.

Participant Screening:

Must have a fully completed profile (not just a few lines).

Must have completed 5 swaps, have a 4.8+ status and no unexplained 1 or 3’s.

I will list all flakes and will angel, but I trust that won’t be necessary.

Ratings:

We’d all like to do a swapper’s dance of joy when we open our envies/packages, but remember ratings are based on meeting the swap's requirements. Surpassing the swap requirements is a sign of generous swappers who take pride in their creativity, by enclosing an extra ATC and/or a small surprise. Pretty packing and postal presentation is also enjoyable. Be sure to rate your partner as soon as you receive the swap. Happy Swapping!

Is the fusible batting like fusible interfacing? And is it really required? I'm awful at using interfacing, which makes me dislike it.

lepapillonvert 05/ 5/2010 #

Yes, some kind of batting is required as it stablizes it and gives it dimension. I just reference one sided fusible because it is easier for most folks to deal with. It is not hard to use the fusible batting. You just cut a 2 1/2 X 3 1/2 piece and apply it to the wrong side of the fabric. This creates the basic fabric base for the ATC and then you add stitching and embelishments.

Last, you stitch the cardstock to the fabric around the edge of the card.

lepapillonvert 05/ 5/2010 #

There are two types of ATCs a raw edged version where you just apply the one sided fusible to the fabric and then stitch it on the cardstock backing or the wrapped edge method. For the wrapped edge or folded under method you cut a 3 1/2 X 4 1/2 inch piece of fabric, isolate and center your design if there is one. Place the fusible batting in the centre of the 3 1/2 X 4 1/2 inch piece of fabric and iron it to stick to the fabric, rub glue stick around the edges of the fusible batting, fold the edges over to sick to the glue, let stand to dry a bit and then stitch on the cardstock back with a zig-zag, blanket or other decorative stitches that give a finished look to your edges.

Is the cardstock backing required or just a suggestion? I usually use plain fabric fused to stiff interfacing.

lepapillonvert 05/ 5/2010 #

Go for it Jenny and anyone else who wishes to use a fabric backing format! A cardstock backing is preferable, but it should not be required for those who like to use a thick stiff fusible, fabric backing and write clearly with a permanent fabric marker.

pahasiga 05/ 5/2010 #

I usually use several layers of thin fusible on the back. :)

Well, I've never even seen 'fusible batting' here anywhere, so I guess I'll sit this one out.

lepapillonvert 05/ 5/2010 #

You can also use non-fusible, you just have to pin it and sew it down.

I just position the batting where I want it to go and put a drop of glue on all four corners... it is very easy. I use peltex as the backing to make it stiff. (I do most embellishing on just the fabric and batting before I put the peltex on. I also use another piece of fabric on the back of the peltex with all the info on....

Thanks for your input shahe05. That is also a good way to create them and will help to demystify the make of Fabric ATCs. I sure hope that everyone who wishes to make one will try this enjoyable craft and come to like it as much as I do. Your help is always appreciated. Sure hope you can sign up. Cheers, LPV

I signed up for your swap. It's so exciting to see this genre and I'm very interested as to what other makers of fabric ATC are doing. (I deleted your message so you can resend it) :)
