This sounds like fun! What about Henry Alexander or Heidi Grace? Do they count as modern fabric? I think both of them use modern color palettes. Neither design anything that looks like it belongs in your grandmother's quilt from 1950.

Yes, Alexander Henry looks good and so does some of the Heidi Grace.

I will point out that some Jo-Ann's fabric is now "Modern" and priced accordingly. I will NOT send it, however, as the swap says not to. I have two excellent quilt fabric shops nearby but I must say the quality of their fabric varies a great deal from manufacturer to manufacturer.
