Have you seen all the great Japanese Washi tape? Do you love the look of it? Do you NOT like the high cost of it and the cost of having it shipped from Japan? Well, this is the swap for you! Use fun fabric scraps that you already have (this will keep the cost low) and make your own beautiful Fabric Paper Tape. Follow this great tutorial. This blog has another example of the tape, and shows some all rolled up. You will have two partners and you will send each partner 1 yard of tape. Sender's choice. This can be 3 different foot long strips, or 1 yard of a single pattern. It can be 1 inch or 2 inches wide. You can mail it flat in an envie or roll it up if you'd like. Quality work only - something you are proud to send and would love to receive. Guidelines: Must have been rated for 10 separate snail mail swaps, 4.8 rating or higher, no 1's or 3's within the past 6 months without a valid explanation, known non-raters may also be banned. I will ban anyone that I feel might not be able to fulfill the swap requirements. Make sure your profile is WELL filled out. Just in case your partner wants to send a profile based item.

I LOVE this idea! I couldn't help myself and did a "tester" piece on some scrapbooking/double sided tape I have here, and it works great!

I agree @iLoveMail when I saw this idea this morning - I just had to put a swap up!

@sduckson I haven't tried it yet, but glad to hear there are other options. The main thing is to make sure the method keeps the fabric from fraying and coming unstuck from the tape itself.

I haven't found the matte, plain, brown, packing tape. I did find some double sided duct tape at Walmart that I am going to try. If it doesn't work, then I will sand the shiny, brown, tape and go with that.

I tried the double side duct tape and it worked great! No need to use wax paper either. Just unpeel one side of the tape. Adhere the fabric to it and SHAZAM! You are done. I'll post pics to my flicker today so you can see how they turned out.

Well, I guess that Fabric Tape made with duct tape would actually be more of a handmade strapping tape, because the duct tape is not paper. Guess that might have to be the next swap. LOL!

for anyone wondering, the scotch brand scrapbooking tape (double stick with peel away paper) works well for this project!

You just have to press the tape firmly on the fabric, then rub the handle of a scissor all over it, to get the tape to grip the fabric nice and good.

After that, I ran a little mod podge over the edges to keep it from fraying and you need to let it "rest" for a couple hours before using it. If you try to peel it too soon the fabric isn't quite "gripped" yet with the tape, but after a couple hours it's just fine.

I found brown paper tape (in the mailing/packaging section) at both Office Max & Staples. At Office Max, it wasn't in the most obvious aisle, but they did have it. I ended up just using my Xyron 510 for the "tape" after all. I'll use the paper tape on the next swap.
