Description:

I think that round shapes are just about the most perfect shape and this shape appears everywhere in everyday life. This challenge should be mounted on recycled material (cereal box, junk mail, magazine covers, etc.) and should include at least 5 circular shapes, all or at least 3 of which are from ads or photos. The materials used can be pictures from magazines of tires, wheels, jewelry, other interesting round shapes. It's okay to include some hand drawn round shapes. Background can be hand drawn or stamped, collaged or painted. If you wish to add words, that is fine. Please use clear glues or gel mediums to secure and protect your precious art...no packing tape please. (unless it's a transfer). Overall size should be no less than 5x7. Newbies welcome, but absolutely NO FLAKERS ALLOWED.

Further clarification in response to questions: Yes,you may use Liquid Laminate, no it is not necessary to cover everything with coating. (I only put that in there because I once received something entirely encased in packing tape.) Yes, you may use 3-D items...in fact mixed-media is my favorite. Yes, you can include words...and I hadn't even thought to limit the words to something round...that is even more interesting but not required. Remember that some of the images can be handdrawn if your design needs that. I could even see wire, yarn, string in a circle. And...just for added interest, I would allow swirls as a type of circle. Hope it turns out to be as much fun as I was hoping it would be.

Let me know if anyone needs more clarification.

Further suggestions in response to inquiry: Good morning, thanks for asking for clarification. What I had in mind was to challenge folks to see circles, round shapes, spirals everywhere. Catalogs, magazines, flyers, etc. are full of clock faces, tires, dishes, planets, coins, flowers, circles within circles, You can google "circles" or "spirals" and come up with all kinds of interesting images. Just collage them in an interesting way. The piece I am working on for my partner has pictures of gears, clocks, coins, rings, flowers, buttons, bobbins, bottle caps...on and on. I've even used real buttons and have decorated the envelope with different colored circles within circles drawn with different thickness of markers. I pulled out all my magazines and started ripping. I have so many images now I couldn't use them all. You may want to reduce the size of some of the circles or enlarge others just for contrast. You can overlay circles or abut them in a spiral pattern of just place them in a balance way and draw tiny circles as background. Please...have fun and let your muse play! Hope this helps.
