Description:

This is the US ONLY VERSION. For the INTERNATIONAL version please join this swap.

For this swap, we'll be making a trinket box for our partners that is made from a used/dollar store/goodwill hardback book. The point of this is to have a neat box that is disguised as a coffee table book! Please also place a profile surprise inside the box/book.

If you don't know how to hollow out a book please visit this LINK for a step-by-step picture tutorial I posted on my blog specifically for this swap.

Requirements:

~Books MUST be hardback

~Books MUST be at LEAST be an inch ( 2.54 cm/25.4mm) thick

~Find a book with an aesthetically pleasing cover that will be fun to have out in the open. This can be for a funny title, beautiful cover, interesting in some way.

~Make sure the book closes properly (doesn't have the cover springing up). Otherwise it doesn't make a great disguised trinket box. Visit the above link for suggestions.

~Do check your partners profile. If they hate Twilight, don't hollow out a Twilight book for them. If they hate scary things don't hollow out "Evil Cannibals and Cult Killers" like in my blog. Play to your partners interests.

~These can be used. Don't go out and buy a brand new book! Try the Goodwill, Salvation Army, yard sales or library for books being sold. Just make sure they aren't falling apart.

~You don't have to follow my tutorial instructions if you have another way you'd like to do it. Just make sure there is a good sized hollowed space and that the pages are stuck together.

~Get your partner a PROFILE SURPRISE that fits inside the finished box. These do not have to be expensive, but they do need to show that you paid attention to your partner's profile.

Nutshell: 1 partner, 1 hardback book hollowed out, 1 profile surprise inside.

Because this swap is going to be time consuming and a bit of work, I'm going to be very strict on who can join because it will be difficult for me to angel more than 1 of these. I'm sorry, no newbies for this first round. I'll check profiles before banning. Participants must have logged into swap-bot at least two days before I assign partners. PM me with questions about this.

For the INTERNATIONAL version please join this swap.

I'm soooo glad you are hosting a U.S. version of this! I really can't afford international postage any more.

what do you mean by profile surprise?

Saristotle 07/20/2010 #

A profile surprise is a gift/surprise that is something your partner lists in their profile. If they are interested in kawaii, putting a Hello Kitty pen in your box would be the profile surprise. If they like frogs and stickers, put frog stickers in there. The box isn't going to be that large, so the profile surprise will not be either. They don't have to be expensive either, just well thought out.

Omg...I'm sorry I'm laughing right now as I see who I have and you're right down the road so to speak. I used to live in a townhouse in Collinsville until Nathan was born. Too cool.

I just moved here from Troy, but I went to Collinsville High School. Do you still live in the area?

nermalski 08/13/2010 #

Yes. I live in Swansea. On Old Collinsville Road. My dad was Air Force and retired out of Scott AFB. I went to Belleville East High School a looooong time ago. :) I work up at the St. Clair Sq. Mall. My husband was born and raised here and all his friends still live here so he doesn't want to live anywhere else.

Wow, I was just talking to someone on here yesterday who lives in St.Louis. Someday we might have a meet up and craft together. You are welcome to join as well!

nermalski 08/13/2010 #

Love that idea. I don't get to craft with the kids wound up, I usually have to do most of mine at night. Allison and I do okay but throw in my son and the two of them get into who gets to sit closest to mom, etc. A lot of my friends and family aren't really crafty. That's why I like the swap sites. :)
