Description:

This swap is for anyone who loves their Library! As a librarian and avid reader, I do not know where I would be without mine. With the recent downturn in the economy libraries were hit especially hard so I think it is time to show them some love!

For this swap you will actually have 2 partners. One of which will be a swap-bot member and the other will be my library. I will be using the ones sent to my library for a display. I want to show our children and patrons how much people from all over love their library!

You will send out one postcard to each of your partners. The subject can be anything (though if you have one of your library that would be awesome!).

On the backside you will write "I love my library because..." and finish the statement. You may include more wording on the one to your swap-bot partner, but please try not to include too much to the library (because I want our "I love my library" statements to really stand out.)

Recap: 2 postcards of any theme (store bought or handmade). Send one to each partner ( one from swap-bot and one to the library) with your "I love my library" statement on the back.

Requirements: Anyone with high ratings and no recent 1 ratings will be accepted. I have the right to refuse anyone I feel may flake. Also, this swap shows love to the Newbies as they are free to join with a well filled out profile.

Library Address:

Aurora Memorial Library C/O Circ Staff 115 E. Pioneer Trail Aurora, OH 44202 USA

Thanks and Happy Swapping!

( Also any suggestions would be nice as this is my first swap)

Since you have assigned 2 partners, Swap-Bot will give us two partners to send to....you might want to change that if we are only supposed to have 1 Swap-Bot partner and send 1 to the library. Thanks for hosting....I think this is a wonderful idea!!

Hellotheremary 08/ 7/2010 #

This is really, really sweet! Thanks for hosting such a cute swap. I do agree with preslarb though, you should probably change it to one partner!

wunderland 08/ 7/2010 #

This is a great swap idea! I'm watching for now, since it really does need to be changed to 1 partner.

penthief 08/ 7/2010 #

Thanks everyone for letting me know that I had it listed as 2 partners. I got a bit carried away this morning! Also, I am sooo glad that people like this idea.

estrones 08/ 7/2010 #

This is a wonderful idea! I'll see if I can find postcards of the National Library of Wales, which is in Aberystwyth, where I live.

penthief 08/ 7/2010 #

That would be awesome! Though, if you cannot any postcards will do.

wunderland 08/ 7/2010 #

Thanks @Rainbowlicker for fixing the partner issue. I'm in, and I promo-ed your fantastic swap in my group forum :)

penthief 08/ 8/2010 #

Thank you @wunderland I appreciate the exposure! Haha.

penthief 08/ 9/2010 #

I am just curious..but would anyone be willing to make this a monthly swap where we choose different libraries to randomly send to?

janetblythe 08/ 9/2010 #

I love my library and I'd love to join this swap.

Hellotheremary 08/10/2010 #

I would totally do this as a monthly swap, that would be really sweet! :D

penthief 08/10/2010 #

I thought so too. And we could take suggestions as to which library to send to next. I just think it would make some librarians very happy. Also, I have created a group to make it easier to keep track of the people interested in a monthly swap. Simply called: Library Lovers.

asamland 08/12/2010 #

Love this! I'm a librarian and signed up for this site just so I can participate! :)

asamland 08/12/2010 #

Where is the group? Sorry new to the site :)

merriebeth 08/12/2010 #

So glad to be part of a library swap...free those resources! Can't wait to send my first post card.

penthief 08/12/2010 #

We are happy to have you @asamland and @merribeth !

BBQ 08/15/2010 #

I love this idea, I tried to do this for our local library & they told me swapbot was a fake site, & noone will join it. Haha- I told them look at all the people on there as we are memebers & have been for over a year now, with good ratings, & alot of people would love to send other children pcs from alot of different places. For now this is on, watch, but I WILL be joining this swap, I love the idea complelty!

penthief 08/15/2010 #

@BBQ I cannot believe they told you this was fake!! Haha. Well we are proving them wrong aren't we? Perhaps we could send to your local library next month?? Really show them what we are made of. Haha

I actually pulled the first card out of the mail yesterday at the library and my coworkers were ecstatic! They loved this idea. Thank you to everyone for joining!

eepy 08/15/2010 #

Maybe we should send the first card to a library in Camden, NJ. This is so sad!

"New Jersey's most impoverished city will close all three branches of its public library at year's end unless a rescue can be pulled off. Camden's library board says the libraries won't be able to afford to stay open past Dec. 31 because of budget cuts from the city government. The city had its subsidy from the state cut." (AP)

Amoredilibri 08/15/2010 #

This is an absolutely fabulous idea. And eepy, I think NJ would be a great place to send some library love.

I'm so excited. This'll be my first swap, and I've got my postcards and (comic book themed)stamps all picked out, ready to send!

penthief 08/15/2010 #

Awesome @amoredilibri !! @eepy I would be happy to setup another swap like this one only sending the library cards to Camden, NJ Public Library.

eepy 08/15/2010 #

I just finished my card for your library, Rainbow, and if you do another swap for Camden I'd be happy to send them one too.

I'm not just a library fan, I'm a library fanatic!

papercaper 08/16/2010 #

BRILLIANT swap, @Rainbowlicker I give Camden, NJ libraries my vote too. To think that hard-earned money being sacrificed as NJ taxes nets its citizens LESS funding for three (!) of their worst-supported libraries is appalling. Maybe it'll help jolt the state govt's sense of responsibility to its own people to know that even ppl as far away as Australia are sending in PCs of support! You know. If govts have any 'sense'. What a travesty!

Maybe we could be a group that helps raise awareness to save libraries threatened with closure.

penthief 08/16/2010 #

@eepy and @papercaper I have created a second library swap. Same basic concept as this, with exception that they library we will be supporting is in Camden, NJ. Feel free to join!

And thanks to everyone for making this swap so successful! We are now in the top swaps!

BBQ 08/16/2010 #

I would LOVE to do this for my local library, because school here starts tomorrow, even though our son is homeschooled, I still support our library. Its just it really hurt me they refused to let me do this for them. Maybe when we move away this next year to a new state, the ywill let me do it at our local library there. WE maybe moving to Jamesort, Mo (an amish town, no not becoming amish, just want some peace & quiet, & away from my stupid inlaws!!)

17Papergoddess 08/16/2010 #

I'm up for this being a monthly thing :) I've been a library volunteer since grade school!

mammadoo 08/16/2010 #

I recently started volunteering at my library as the economy has caused some drastic cut backs here. My local library went from 27 employees to 12 and it happed all over the county. I hope to see this swap again.

karminandrea 08/16/2010 #

@Rainbowlicker I dig this swap. Also, I wanted to say how much I love your name and that I love the PC you sent to my students.

penthief 08/16/2010 #

@Karminandrea not a problem. It was your swap that actually had me think this up!! So thanks for holding such a wonderful swap yourself!

susieq11 08/17/2010 #

AH, a day late...my life story! Hoping for another one!

Artistic 08/24/2010 #

By integrating natural light, greenery, and modern design elements, libraries can create inviting z library single login and inspiring spaces that encourage exploration and creativity. Thoughtful design choices can enhance the overall atmosphere of the library, making it a place where patrons feel comfortable and inspired to learn.Beyond simply providing resources, modern libraries aim to foster active engagement among their users.

This is an article about a postcard swap challenge on Swap-bot. It discusses the importance of libraries. The article also explores ways to make libraries more inviting.
