Description:

This is a swap to show support for our troops! This swap is very simple. You will have one Swap-bot partner, but you will write two letters. The first letter goes to your Swap-bot partner and the second will be mailed to me so that I can forward them all on to our troops overseas.

I have been in contact with a gentleman who sends books and magazines to our troops and he said the most requested thing is letters from home. Some of the troops do not receive any mail from home, so I thought this would be a nice way to show our support.

The letters you write to your Swap-bot partner can be in any format you wish. But please read over their profile and write about common interests or your day. It is up to your partner to decide if they wish to write you back.

Some guidelines for writing to the troops. Please begin your letter "Dear Soldier" because the letters are being sent to any soldier who wishes to receive mail. Please do not make it gender specific, as we have both men and women fighting for us. Also, do not spray the letters with perfumes or fragrances as some soldiers may have allergies. Lastly, please write more than just a few words. Take some time and write a meaningful letter.

It is up to you as to whether you wish to include your contact info in the letter (address, email, etc). Do not send pictures as I will not be forwarding those on. And also, if you wish to send your contact info be sure to include it in the letter itself as I am going to be checking the letters to make sure they are appropriate before I send them on.

I hope we can make this a wonderful swap! You may or may not support the war, but I hope you all support our troops.

No recent 1's or flakers, anyone else will be gladly accepted.

Just to let everyone know, you can send a letter or a card. If sending a card just be sure that you are able to write a bit inside it. =) Oh and homemade cards are a great idea!

mauiwahine 08/ 8/2010 #

Could we put something flat in the letter for something extra for them, like a bookmark or postcard to show them where we live at?

ButterflyDreams 08/ 8/2010 #

What a great swap idea =) My husband is in the military and whislt he receives mail and care packages from home, many in his unit do not and it's a very lonely time for them when the mail comes arround & they don't receive anything from home. My children and I always send extra lollies & magazines so that my husband can share with those that don't receive mail.

melzenitram 08/ 8/2010 #

will they be able to write back??

penthief 08/ 8/2010 #

@mauiwahine yes you could include something like that inside your letter. Anything extra will get forwarded on to the soldiers. I am hosting another swap for bookmarks that is similar to this one. You might want to check it out. It would be a way for you to get a bookmark too.

@Butterflydreams Thank you! I am glad that you are already supporting the troops by sending them things from home!!

@Melsenitram If you include your address or email or both (!) they may write back. But really it all depends on whether they have the time to write. Hopefully they will! As I would love to see people corresponding with a soldier!

Thank you all for joining!

Finally!! I joined swap-bot some time ago and have spent lots of time looking for a swap I would like to be my first. I am very very very excited for this. I fully support our troops and I wish I had the strength and courage they did. This is by far one of the best swaps ive seen on here and I can't wait to do it.

SamBuck 08/12/2010 #

This is a great swap, thank you so much for hosting it. I think there should be more like these.

penthief 08/12/2010 #

Well, I am glad you both like it!! Welcome to swap-bot @Mandaface !! I do hope that we get some responses from our soldiers, but if not we can always host another swap and pass along more letters! Also, I have been thinking perhaps doing one where we can send small things they might want/need. Most requested was letters, but they need other things too. So perhaps another swap to come?

MandaFace 08/12/2010 #

id love to see other swaps of this type for them...btw my letter is almost done do u mind if i send it to you early?

penthief 08/12/2010 #

@MandaFace , that would be fine. I plan on waiting till I have the group to hand them over and get them sent to the soldiers but I will gladly take yours when you are finished. Thank you for participating!!

I would just like to make a note as I make cards and such to send to troops myself. Just make sure its not all glittery and such. Just a simple plan card with words will do. Glitter is not a very good idea as we know how it can cling to you and that can be dangerous for our troops.

Thanks, Roxy

Rainbowlicket, thank you for doing this. I do know the soldiers overseas will appreciate them. I'm in the Army myself and have deployed once to Iraq. Now I have a friend in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and I send them a care package once a month with extras, so they are able to pass them on to their platoon or squad. My husband will be deploying next year, so I know I'll be sending more things. So thank you again for setting up this swap. I'm still new to swap-bot and if I can figure out how to start a new swap, I'd be doing the same thing.

penthief 08/17/2010 #

@roxymf thanks for sharing the info!! @ DancingWolves I am glad you like the swap. I am thinking about hosting another just like this. Thanks to everyone for making this a good swap!

itsapenpalworld 08/19/2010 #

Can you include more then one letter when sending to the soldiers? Like if I wrote two letters and sent them to you, would they both be delivered? and I write my penpal just a regular lettr right

Great swap idea, Misty! If any card-makers are looking for a similar swap, please check out this one:

I'll be posting the link to your swap there as well :)

@Rainbowlicker I am sending the letter tomorrow 8/23 but I marked it as sent because my computer is broken and I can only access the internet every few days at friends houses I just wanted to let you know :)
