I have a bunch of old PCs, but they are not dated on the back. How do we know how old they are?

Vintage postcards come in a couple of different categories. One type is linen, and they feel different than today's postcards. Another type, which is probably more common, is 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 - they are "chrome" like today's modern postcards, but smaller.

If the postcard is printed like modern postcards and is 4 x 6, it's probably not vintage.

I plan on joining, but my vintage pcs are 3-1/2x5-1/2 too, but today when someone that wanted vintage from me, & they got it today actually told me off that they were too small & couldntdo anything with them, because vitnage cards arnt that small, that ALL pcs even vintage are 4x6 too. This was West MichiganGuy that told me this.

Kimbeewa 08/13/2010 #

Yep, mine are 3 1/2 x 5 1/2. Sorry that happened @BBQ I hate people like that.

darzy30 08/14/2010 #

Oh, that's too bad, @BBQ I'm sorry that happened.

BBQ 08/15/2010 #

So is it ok for me to join this swap eventhough my vintage cards are 3 1/2x 5 1/2?? If so I will be joining when it gets closer to the due date.

darzy30 08/15/2010 #

Yes, it is, @BBQ Not all 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 cards are vintage, but most are. The cards should be 1980 or earlier, and there is no size restriction!

BBQ 08/15/2010 #

TY so much, I will be joining this swapwhen itgets closer to the due date. I my self love vintage pcs, because it reminds me of happier times when I was little on vactions with my family.

Hi, Here is some information about postcards you might be interested in. I have been collecting postcards for over 50 years and these are the standards collectors use: Antique era 1893-1918 White border era 1915-1930 Linen textured paper to resemble linen fabric Real Photo-an actual photo on photographic paper with a preprinted back Chrome-a glossy printed postcard 1939-to present day Chrome standard size - 3-1/2x5-1/2 Chrome continental size 4x6 inches

I have found over the years that people will call a postcard vintage if it was printed when they were a child or before they were born.

Enjoy the day! Demaris

Hi Let me try that list again:

Antique era 1893-1918 - White border era 1915-1930 - Linen textured paper to resemble linen fabric - Real Photo-an actual photo on photographic paper with a preprinted back - Chrome-a glossy printed postcard 1939-to present day - Chrome standard size - 3-1/2x5-1/2 - Chrome continental size 4x6 inches

I hope this is easier to read, Demaris

I plan on joining, but I am not too sure that all my 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 are pre 1980. I have in my collection linen, which I really don't want to part with. So what about the others????

darzy30 08/27/2010 #

@maggiesmother - sorry I didn't get to your comment before the deadline. If you want, we can do a private swap.
