"Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world."

~ Anne of Green Gables

In this swap, you are invited to send your partner a small but lovely gift inspired by Anne. Whether you choose to send a beautiful book of poems, a lock of your jet-black tresses (well...perhaps not), a pair of vintage kid gloves, or even a doll dressed in puffed sleeves, the possibilities are endless.

Your gift may be handmade, clean thrifted, or store-bought, it doesn't matter--as long as it's a thoughtful gift that is related to the books in some way, and something you'd be happy to receive. It does not need to be a pricey item, as it's the thought that counts here. This gift should not be just an item that has an image of Anne on it--it should be an item she might have used or liked to receive. Please enclose a note to your partner explaining why you chose the item, and perhaps how you found it as well.

You will have one month to put together your package, although really, since it's sender's choice, you could start thinking about it now. Your Anne gift should arrive in early November--which is perfect since it's L.M. Montgomery's birthday at the end of the month. Happy swapping!

All members in good standing may participate in this exchange. By joining this swap, you pledge to follow through with your commitment and to faithfully communicate with your partner if there is any delay. And please--be sure to rate your partner promptly upon receipt!

Aaaaah! I LOVE THIS SWAP! The Anne books are my favorite books of all time. I'm SO happy to see this one. :)

thehappyhoneybee 09/ 8/2010 #

Yay! She's near and dear to my heart, too.

Moose 09/10/2010 #

I only know her by the TV series. Have not read the books (yet ?) So i'm not yet "qualified" to be in this swap ;-) Love the idea though, of looking for a gift inspired by a book !

thehappyhoneybee 09/10/2010 #

Oh @Moose ! If you love the TV series, you will be swept away by the books. Do do do give them a try.

Moose 09/11/2010 #

OK, i'll try, when i get the time ;-) and if i can find them here.

hollycm6 09/11/2010 #

The books are SO sweet and beautiful.

NaughtyElf 09/15/2010 #

OK, now I have to start reading them too. I have always heard about them but never had a chance to get to them, now I am curious!

My favorite Anne-ism...

"I wouldn't want to marry anyone who was truly wicked...but I'd like it if he could be wicked--and wouldn't!"

~ Anne of Avonlea

Oh, those of you who haven't read them simply MUST. I read the entire series once a year. I laugh at the same parts and cry at the same parts. It's like visiting old friends.

"Do you think amethysts are the souls of good violets?"

waldenpond2 09/27/2010 #

I used to think that diamonds were a beautiful purple shade, and when I saw a real diamond, I cried.

That's a paraphrase as I do not have an actual Anne book in hand right now!
