What are etsys?

@Nicky33 Etsy is a website with amazing sellers that have just about anything you are looking for from Vintage sewing patterns, 1950's pyrex, Hello Kitty Stickers and what ever else your imagination can dream up to put in the search bar. Please check out www.etsy.com and get shopping. Each time you visit something you like you mark it as a favorite item or if you like what the seller is selling altogether then you have a choice to mark it as a favorite seller. Hope this helps! Before you can add to favorites, you must fill out an etsy profile on their site. So make sure to so that first. =)

@ElizabethMD Is is against the rules of websites like e-Bay to ask a seller to label their product as 'GIFT', I've been told. Whether or not it is the same on Etsy I can't be sure. But it isn't a very cool thing to do... unless of course they say "no problem!" in which case it might turn out to be very cool! ;)

But I do feel I should point out that it is also against the rules of the postal services in each country, and almost certainly against the Customs laws of the countries themselves (because they will miss out on export/import taxes).

That said, I still might ask the seller, but it's really beyond our control as swappers... Just to be clear, we're not teenagers here (well, most of us aren't!): what we're doing is asking a seller to break the law and put their businesses at risk (Etsy sellers are usually small businesses, not corporations!) - and there are Customs Dept spot-checks on these things... It'd probably get through fine, but I'd hate to think of the penalties to the seller if it didn't....

@papercaper The reason we say to tell the seller this, is that these WILL BE gifts for the receiver, and as a seller on Etsy I know that if audited or questioned because the billing and shipping info is different. It passes with no problems. The fav purchased for your swap partner IS a gift.

It's a cool idea! Going to choose some favorits. Couse alote of my fav on etsy is cheaper or more expensive. So i am going to choose something for this swap. LoL

I"m an etsy seller and I've never heard of any rules about not being able to say something is a gift. It's a gift, then it's a gift. Buying someone something off their favorites is a gift, plain and simple. I've done tons of these swaps and never had a problem with the seller saying it was a gift. Just my two cents.

Oh, cripes.... I totally missed the fundamental point - that they ARE gifts! How embarrassing after going on at length like that. :X My whole argument was for when it's a straight PURCHASE, not a gift.... that you can't ask a seller to misrepresent themselves (not that they'd easily get caught or anything) because it's not fair on them. I've just seen so many E-bay sellers saying "Don't ask me to mark this purchase as a gift....blah blah blah.... the law!!!.... blah blah blah...." But you're right - this isn't strictly a purchase.

I would love to do this swap, but I'll have to wait until a US only version rolls around. I'm too poor to potentially get an international partner :( Boo money.

I love Etsy swaps but i have to wait until it get closer to see if i have any spare money.

I've tried to sort out my Etsy faves but my two most favourite shops are on vacation so I can't re-add things that have sold already but seriously, I'm SO easy to please! If it's anything like the tons of goodies on my faves I'll be more than happy so no worries! ^_^
