Description:

You will make and mail a cootie catcher / fortune teller to a most excellent partner. I suggest making one for yourself, too, because they are so much fun.

Here are some links to help you visualize what the project is:

-- a cootie catcher

-- what a detailed one could look like unfolded

-- the front squares of a folded cootie catcher

-- sample folding instructions

-- a simple template you could modify to suit your needs

SWAP instructions:

1--design the cootie catcher for your partner. Use her name and profile as inspiration for fortunes to tell, illustrations, decorative elements. I have had the best luck using 100% cotton paper for these. Unlike in grade school, notebook paper will not do.

2--decorate the elements of the project lovingly by drawing or otherwise illustrating them, gluing on paper, glittery bits, collage, exceptional use of stickers etc.

3--fold them so that when your partner opens the envelope she sees an origami square divided into four smaller, decorated squares.

4--enclose the cootie catcher / fortune teller in a folded sheet of larger paper or an envelope of its own so it travels well inside your mailing envelope.

5--enclose a personalized note to your partner, of at least one page describing your making process and wishing your partner well .

All welcome with 4.8 or higher ratings and 10+ completed mail swaps. I will review profiles before assigning partners. In the sad and unlikely event that angelling is needed, I will angel these but cannot guarantee that angelled fortune tellers will be personalized.

Cootie catchers, or fortune tellers as they are sometimes called, are way too delightful to stay in middle school where I first made them! Any questions, please ask. Thanks & happy swapping!

Wow, what a cool idea for a swap NorthernBorder!! You always do come up with the most original ideas. This is a great time to have it because it was/is traditional to have fortune telling during Halloween. I'm wondering if you should change it to just one partner though because with all the hands-on decorating and personalization I may only be able to do one. Just a thought.

This is super cool, I agree! I do think one partner might be more manageable, though, as we could really do it up right!

Thanks for the adjustment! Am looking forward to this one.
