Description:

I've been enjoying a variety of journal swaps lately and have had the good fortune of having some really great partners. For the most part my partners have gone above and beyond the requirements and I wanted to create a journal swap that would incorporate some of the ideas they included to make a stellar journal.

The premise of this swap is simple - keep a journal for at least twenty days. Each day should have one entry. Each entry should include one page of text and one page of illustration. The text can be anything you feel like - what happened during the day, a poem or song you like, a story you read or wrote... literally anything. The illustration should be complementary and could include a drawing, a collage, a photograph, or any art that you want to include. For example, one day you might go to dinner and a movie. Your entry might be the story of your night and the illustration might be a collage of a take-out menu from the restaurant, a ticket stub, and maybe a magazine cutout related to the movie.

Edited! Sorry I guess I should have been a bit clearer - the finished product should have twenty entries. You will then send it on to your partner who will keep it.

You should not wait until the last minute to write all of the entries. You will have one partner, therefore you will need one journal. Any style of journal or notebook is acceptable - whatever moves you creatively.

This swap is International, so please keep that in mind when joining and when picking out the size and weight of your journal. If you would like to participate in the US Only version please check it out here: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/7493

Obviously, this swap requires a large commitment of time and energy, so it is for serious swappers only. That means you must have a rating of 4.5 or above. I will ban anyone with a lower rating or more than one no send. Sorry, no newbies.

Thanks for checking out my swap and feel free to contact me with any questions!

So what do you do with the journal with your partner? You write in it for 30 days, then what? Just trade? Or work in eachother's?

Wanda 09/13/2007 #

I'm guessing after you write in it for 20 or more days, you send it to your partner and they read it and keep it. And whoever sends you their journal, you read it and keep it.

I am really thinking about joining this. I used to keep journals just like this - each day a written entry and then an illustration or collage representing the day - but got away from it. This might give me a jump-start in getting back into it...

Yep, Wanda is right - you write twenty entries and then send it on to your partner who keeps it. And you get to keep the journal from whomever sends to you.

I am interested in this swap but concerned about the fact it is International. I was in a swap like this once (on another site) where I was forced to spend $8-$9 in airmail postage to send a $1.99 journal from USA to Manilla, otherwise, it literally would have taken months to get there by ship. The person never let me know if it was received. Would you consider hosting a second, identical swap, but for USA residents only?

Sure, the US Only version is here: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/7493

Awesome idea. I like the challenge of doing one illustration per entry, related to the text! I've got a question though: Is the one page text, one page illustration requirement set as a minimum or as an absolute number? I mean, sometimes you start a text entry and it ends up longer than you thought it would be... well over one page. Would that be okay, or does it need to be a 'neat' one page always?

julief 09/23/2007 #

Great question - it's definitely the minimum. Feel free to create as much art or write as much text as you want.

Thank you for answering so quickly :-) I'm in then.
