Did you enjoy the first one? Here's the second!! If you didnt get to be in the first one - try this one now!

Ok everyone. Here we go with part TWO of the journal page swap!!

The size of the page will be 5 x 7 inches.

Leave 1 inch of the left side of the page blank so that it can be bound into a book without any of the artwork needing to be holepunched or wrecked or anything like that. =P

Decorate the page with all things mermaidy! Make a scene or a collage or whatever your mind comes up with! The end result of the series of page swaps will be something people are proud to have as a coffee table book! =P Use a sturdy paper like cardstock so it can be bound easily without having to worry about tearing. Make the front of the page your focus, but don't ignore the backside! Put something nice as well! I'll leave it up to you guys to figure out what you would like to do there. =) Make sure your name and/or username are on the page somewhere.

The number of partners will be determined once we know how many have signed up for this swap, so please only sign up if you know you are willing to send out to several different people. You will be sending to everyone that signs up for this swap. One page per partner. You will have one full month after the signup deadline to send.

If you want to make one page and color copy that to send out to everyone, that's fine, but only if you have made a collage or something that could possibly fall apart over time. But please make sure the copy is of good quality. Copy centers often have pretty nice color copiers.

If you have any comments about this swap and the requirements, please post them below. Since the signup deadline for this swap isn't for a while, we have time to change this until the final signup deadline.

If you were a part of the first swap - please send something different this time - not the same page you sent last time. If for any reason you haven't sent your pages from the last swap - I would ask you to send them before signing up for this one.

I gave us plenty of time to sign up and since December is so busy - all of January to craft.
THE NUMBER OF SWAP PARTNERS WILL CHANGE

BusyB 09/30/2010 #

Thank you so much @kimmer I'll be watching until I see that the last swap is completed. :)

wolviechick121 10/ 1/2010 #

I hope you don't mind, but I added in the requirement of adding your name and/or username on the page somewhere. When we bind these pages together in a book, I kind of want to know who did what page as I'm flipping through. =P The envelope won't be with it later so I can know.

Thanks for hosting this round.

kimmer 10/ 1/2010 #

Great idea! I didnt do that on the pages I sent - and I noticed it on the pages I have gotten and realized I should have!!

wolviechick121 10/ 1/2010 #

Yeah same. haha. Except I hadn't sent mine out yet so I was like... ooh, I should do that. haha ;P

Here are a few issues that need to be ironed out. Cardstock and posterboard are two different weights of paper. I have this amazing page that will not "page" but instead is creasing. and not in a good way. the posterboard weight is designed not to bend for the purpose of being sturdy as a poster. Also, putting the shells where the book will be bound is causing the page above it to be poked into and making holes. maybe putting the chunky stuff at least a third of the page away from the bound edge would be a good idea so that it will be easier not to damage the other pages that are above it. The left side will be squeezed together and anything in its way will be squeezed right along with it. I have loved every page I have received so far. I am going to have to get really creative on the next ones and on how to bind them so that nothing gets messed up. Im in. Thanks for hosting Kimmer! Is it OK if I write your name on the page? where do you want me to put it? Haha, or maybe you could sign a small shell cut out and I could glue it to the bottom right hand corner of the back of your page?! you could send it in the next page swap.

wolviechick121 10/ 2/2010 #

Yeah that's a good point, samjowers. That's why I'd put in the last one to leave the 1 inch on the binding side blank, but I meant it more like... keep in mind that these are going to be bound in a book! haha. So keep that in mind while you're making your books. How would your page work with other pages around it? How well will it bend after it's bound?

kimmer 10/ 2/2010 #

samjowers - those are good points and i think im the culprit! oh and you can write anything on the page i sent that you like - its yours!

I will take your advice on the posterboard - and any chunk will be at least a third into the page. and hosting this is no problem - this is my favorite swap!!!

Posterboard - is that just the regular school supply posterboard or something else?

samjowers 10/ 2/2010 #

yes, regular school supply posterboard. card stock is much lighter. same as bussiness cards. works very well for these pages. Even the heavier weight drawing paper works. (90lb) Does anyone know of a tutorial on how to make scrabble or domino tile pieces? they all look so beautiful, but i have never made one and want to try something new to send with my mermaids.

BusyB 10/ 4/2010 #

What about the watercolor paper I used? It's a little thick, so would like some feedback please when you receive my pages. I put a paperclay embellishment and other chunky stuff to the right side of my page for the same reason you are mentioning samjowers I LOVE the pages I've received! Can't wait to see more that are going to be in my mailbox soon! yippy!

wolviechick121 10/ 4/2010 #

Yeah I'm totally going to try some scrabble tiles here soon. I found a cool site for it. Let me see if I can find it, and I'll link it. =P

Watercolor paper is great! That seems to be really sturdy and holds well together, and it bends nicely. Cardstock is good, too, 'cause it holds together and is still stiff enough but allows itself to bend. I agree that some of the pages are kind of too stiff. They're still beautiful! I love them!!! But it'd be nice if they were more like pages than covers. I LOVE THEM THOUGH!!!!! haha. So yeah let's go with cardstock or watercolor paper. Those seem to work well for a journal.

Oh good I did bookmark it. Here's what I found for how to do scrabble tiles: http://www.makeandtakes.com/links/scrabble-tile-pendant-tutorial

samjowers 10/ 4/2010 #

I cant believe it! theyve started making scrabble tiles out of plastic! I even went to the resale shop and couldnt find any old scrabble games. I guess I need to ask around to see if anyone has an old game they dont want any more.

samjowers 10/ 4/2010 #

Excellent tutorial BTW and thanks!!!

kimmer 10/ 4/2010 #

sam - hit the thrift stores for scrabble tiles!

samjowers 10/ 5/2010 #

I did! Nothing! :C

wolviechick121 10/ 6/2010 #

You can buy wooden ones on ebay. Lots of them in bulk. =) I'm going to hit up the thrift stores here soon to see if they have any old boxes of scrabble 'cause yeah... everything's goin' plastic now-a-days. sigh I miss wood..... haha

samjowers 10/ 8/2010 #

Are we still talking about scrabble tiles?!? teehee!

kimmer 10/11/2010 #

bwa ha ha ha ha!!!

BigHillGoddess 10/23/2010 #

What an awesome idea! I hate that I missed the first round. If you are having issues with the chunky items pressing through to the page before, one solution is to create a "spacer" meaning a folded over piece of paper in your margin, so there is a gap between the two pages. I have had to do that in altered books and scrapbooks-it works well.

samjowers 10/24/2010 #

Thanks for that suggestion! I was also thinking a thin piece of foam core in the binding.

kimmer 10/24/2010 #

Im thinking I may have found the perfect background for a page --- cant wait to play with it!

samjowers 12/ 2/2010 #

OK, soooo, there are 8 of us and 10 partners.

Mimi7 12/ 4/2010 #

So excited for this swap again. Found some really great paper for my background!!!

samjowers 12/28/2010 #

Mine are done! I was given some scrabble tiles and decided to alter them. I shrunk images of some of my origional ATC's of mermaids and put them on it, They look really great and you'll be able to use them however you want. put a baile on the back, glue them to a pin..what ever.

samjowers 01/17/2011 #

Are some of you not getting your mail? I have only been rated for four pages and I sent them out over two weeks ago!

starrgazer 01/26/2011 #

@samjowers I have not been rated by several people as well.

Please remember to rate people! I worry that my pages have been lost, or worse, that you don't like my work! :)
