Description:

I don't know whether anyone has done this swap before, but I think it's a worthwhile swap even if they have. There is a site called post pals that list seriously ill children who need a bit of cheering up.

You can choose a child, read about them, and send a much needed card, letter, postcard or even a present to make them smile. Because it is such a worthwhile cause, I would love to help more children receive cards and letters.

So for this swap go to http://www.postpals.co.uk click "Find Pals" and choose an ill child to send a letter or card to. Then send them a letter or card at their listed address, (or a gift if you want) and send another letter to your swap partner. In the letter to your postpal remember not to mention their illness or talk about being ill, just be cheery and talk about your life.

You can send a letter, card, or postcard but say a little about yourself. And of course you are welcome to send gifts or parcels based on their likes.

In your letter to your swap partner tell them who you chose on post pals, and why and a bit about yourself and your own life.

Anyone can join, but please do send the cards or letters to the children, because they really will appreciate it and you never know you could make a sick child smile.

Can we use the American Site as well? http://www.makeachildsmile.org/

I have already chosen a child for this month. I think he deserved it more. Then i am thinking maybe november pick another child. Then december Pick maybe 2 of them to brighten their time up! Bless my best friend was sick as a child, He made my life complete. Been gone 15 years now. We were friends through it all. I know he would say make a child smile. I intend to write a nice long letter.

hi all. Nicole, yes, you can use the American site as well, they are both very worthy causes. And sandy how nice of you, I'm sure the children will appreciate it. I'm so happy to see so many people watching this swap as well, hopefully they all join and lots of children get lots of letters. :)

Once we find a child do we let you know? I think I will use the American site also. Thanks, great idea.

sleepy1 10/17/2010 #

No, you don't need to let me know. Just tell your swap partner who you chose.

Oh my. What a great swap. I don't need any more buttons, craft paper, or supplies. I am loving the wonderful feeling I got from reading this swap. What an angel you are Sleepy1 for creating this swap. This should be an ongoing monthly swap. I've picked my partner from the UK site and I'm choosing one from America also. This will by my new monthy joy. Thanks for connecting us to this!

I've chosen my UK pal, sent her a nice long letter with stickers today. Then went to the US website and sent a girl a letter with stickers. I've decided I'm going to do this for the girls in my office for the holidays. Get together at lunch one day, have everyone choose a child, bring all my stickers and stationary and have everyone write a child and I'll go mail them. I'd love to see this catch on with the girls I work with and us make something we do monthly!

I love how many people say they are going to continue sending letters or introducing it to others they know, that is wonderful. It makes me smile :) Thanks everyone. Swap will be assigned tomorrow. I might also so another swap in December for a Christmas parcel for the kids too, if anyone is interested.

I was just wondering if we would ever hear back from the child that we sent to like an email if we listed it in the letter, or via mail? I hope so, I want to know how he liked his present.

sleepy1 11/ 8/2010 #

you might do rockinrobin, some children and parents reply, but I would say don't expect it, especially as the families have a lot on their minds and may not have the time to reply.

Sending off my letter and photos today :) I would definitely be keen for a december christmas version of this swap, could maybe even start up a group for all of us to share our experiences. I would definitely join :D :D
