These are totally new to me, and look like so much fun! They look to be around 4"/10cm tall. Is that the size they are supposed to be, or can the size vary?

Biff 09/15/2007 #

Just love these little Dotee dolls.

But with out meaning to sound simple! Are they called Dotee after the orginal designer 'Dot' or is there more too it than that - like some sort of old folk tale I've missed out on???

enjoy 09/15/2007 #

@ Wanda

I think the tall should be between 3,15" (8 cm) and 4" (10 cm. Thanks for the question, i will supplement the swap description.

@ Biff

I think they are called after the orinal designer "Dot" - something else i also not well-known ;-)

At last...a swap for dollmakers! Count me in.

Biff 09/16/2007 #

Oh boy. I made my first Dotee last night! They are so addictive! I want to make make make so many more of these little babies! Very excited about this swap :) & my new crafty creations too... Thinking I might have to rig up some sort of branch or pegs or something near my crafty space to hang them from.

lulu 09/19/2007 #

These look so sweet - and could help to use up some of my craft bits and pieces!!

happyichigo 09/20/2007 #

enjoy 09/20/2007 #

cindyforeyes 09/20/2007 #

Dotee dolls are the art dolls made by an Australian lass. Hers are usually small ones which you can hold in your hand, however, someone used her design to create a huge Dotee doll (http://dotslifeandart.blogspot.com/2007/03/dotee-doll-with-difference.html)

If you what to see some other types of art doll then I suggest you go along to the Comfort Dolls blog (http://comfortdolls.blogspot.com/) where there is a big collection of dolls which are no more than 6-inches in height - though better pictures of the early dolls for this project can be seen on the organiser's own blog. Who knows, maybe you will even send one in to the organiser.

Melusine 09/21/2007 #

Oh, and I forgot to say... I love making these dolls. Please may I join - I am a newbie who has not been rated as yet?

justdebi 09/21/2007 #

Wow, these look great, cant wait to start making some. Cant guarantee how good they will be, but I have lots of daugters, nieces and grand daughters to practice on!

enjoy 09/21/2007 #

@ Melusine your are welcome!

Question: you say the height of the doll must be 8-10cm, what does this refer to? Mine dotee usually come out at about 15cm - 7-8cm for the actualy doll (depending on what her hair is made from), 4-5cm for the dangles below her body and 3cm for the beaded hanger.

I just thought I would ask in case someone measures the doll when it arrives and marks their senders down. I've heard there are people who do that.

enjoy 09/22/2007 #

The measure applied to the body of the doll.In principle there are not to be too many regulations, because I think these limit creativity ;-)

It would be beautifully also to know latet, who had made the doll. Who would like to mark it, that can do that.

Prpldy 09/23/2007 #

I've made three and loving them so much, they are a blast to make. Will get pictures taken and uploaded to the flickr site.

kushkusha 09/23/2007 #

Hi, Before signing... I have a question- is the hanger must be beaded?? or it can b a ribon?? thank you

enjoy 09/24/2007 #

You can also use a nice ribbon ;-)

mcall 09/30/2007 #

Hello, I finally decided to join in here at swap-bot, though I've been looking around for a while. I'm a complete newbie but I hope I can still join in.

There are two links in my profile you can check out so you can see I actually can and do make stuff! And since part of my job is shipping out the stuff I make and sell, I can promise I will actually ship out my Dotee Doll. :)

HopeWilbanks 10/ 3/2007 #

Dolls are on the way to Melusine, Cindy, and NeNe from me in Canada. I hope there are more Dotee Doll swaps coming in the future - I love making these!

Biff 10/11/2007 #

I finished my third last night & was getting ready to parcel them all up & thought it might be fun to do a dotee doll kit swap? Everything bar the stuffing & thread? So you get to play around and make a dotee out of bits & bobs hat you might not have in your stash... WIP. (Sorry no thought in progress rather than work!)

Biff 10/11/2007 #

POSTED & on way to new homes! (not sure how long they will take as we are having major postal strikes at the mo!)

But loved doing this swap. Thank you Enjoy for creating it. :)

Biff 10/11/2007 #

p.s. would love to play this one again...

lulu 10/12/2007 #

Biff 10/13/2007 #

Melusine 10/23/2007 #

Just thought I would let people know that I posted my Dotee dolls off this evening. Keep your fingers crossed that they have a speedy trip across the pond (or "up north" in one case).

ArtiCat 10/29/2007 #

It was such fun making these dolls, I am sure I will make more of them.
But I just wanted to let you know that I posted my three dotees on Saturday 27 and I hope they will arrive safely and the new owners like them! Greetings, ArtiCat (Jutta)

Nathalie 10/29/2007 #

Number 3 is finished this weekend and they will all go out in todays post

Moominbrooke 10/30/2007 #

To JaneR. mcall and Wanda-Mine are going out today- I made them during my daughter's music lessons (she's learning Donegal style Irish trad. fiddling). I'm going to miss them! Must make more!

Wanda 10/30/2007 #

I'm going right down to the wire with mine, too. They will go out today, but right now I am waiting for my daughter-in-law to sew the last seam on my youngest grandson's costume, then return my sewing machine, so I can sew the fronts and back of my dolls together.

I'm embarrassed not to have gotten these out sooner. I'm usually early, but this is my busiest time of year - Sept. through December, with Oct. and Dec. being the peaks. Oy! Plus, I have to say, sewing is not my 'best' thing, and after doing my first one, I was disappointed in my lack of skill, and put off doing my swap dolls. The intimidation factor set in. Ha!

Cindy 10/30/2007 #

Just to let my partners know that I will be shipping their dollies out tomorrow. I'm so sorry to be last minute. I had planned on finishing them last night and instead ended up in the Emergency Room at the hospital. I'm alright although I thought I was on my way out last night!

Again, I'm so sorry to be behind. Take care.
