Description:

I have high aspirations and am calling this the "first in a series" of charity swaps. For our very first swap this one couldn't be easier and it uses scraps!

There are several people & groups working on this already:

The original yahoo group - LoveAfghans For Pine Ridge Reservation

The Ravelry group that is based on the original group.

The newest project - as of a few days ago Suzie has received or crocheted 1,853 squares! Her new goal is to have 2,500 squares by Valentine's Day.

The Swap: Pick a pattern, then make some squares and send them off to your person of choice (Pam or Suzie). Next you will blog about it somewhere (with pictures!), and finally you will send a letter to your partner about why you decided to join the swap and include a link to the blog post.

So to summarize all you need to do...

  1. Pick a pattern & make some squares (you decide how many to make)
  2. Take pictures of them!
  3. Send them to your "collector of choice" based on links above
  4. Blog about it somewhere
  5. Send letter to your partner about why you joined this swap & include a link to the blog post

Any and all ideas/suggestions for future swaps are invited! There is a Knitting Kittens forum thread set up for this purpose.

Update: This was brought up in group about the yarns so I'll repeat it here. Suzie's blog says use Red Heart Super Saver yarn & the question was is that all we can use? My answer:

I'm assuming that Suzie wants all acrylics so any squares can go together. I'm thinking if one sends to her as long as they use any acrylic in a worsted weight it should be fine. I have some yarns that I've received in the past (& present - thanks, Smudge!) that I know nothing about other than they appear acrylic & worsted weight. I'm using them.

The Ravelry group says any yarns are welcome as long as the wools are marked (for allergy reasons). So the bottom line is any yarns for the Ravelry or yahoo groups, worsted weight acrylic for Suzie's project.

Is this for crochet squares only? If knit too, what is the size of the squares?

The Ravelry group talks about knitting & crocheting both. The squares are the same size, either 6 inch or 12 inch.
