Swap description: A Packet of Enchantment

Imagine you are a pedlar in a fairy tale marketplace, or by the turnstile where three roads meet. What products might be lurking in your basket, waiting for the opportunity to barter with an unsuspecting stranger? For this swap you will provide your partner with a sample of this fictional pedlar's wares. Your sample must be packaged as a replica of 'the real thing' (unless you have secret sources within the realm of fairy tale, in which case an actual 'real thing' is perfectly acceptable), in whatever manner best suits the peddled item (e.g. seed packet, small box, bagged etc) but must include:

  • a label proclaiming manufacturer & contents
  • instructions for use
  • and - of course – the enchanted item itself.

The real world value of the peddled item is immaterial. Your item may be something that actually features as a bartered/purchased item within a fairy tale such as Jack's handful of beans, or Snow White's poisoned comb; or it could be something used by a character or which appears as a specific feature/prop within a fairy tale such as a a hook guaranteed to catch a talking, wish-fulfilling fish, or a recipe & directions for construction of a gingerbread cottage. You get the idea – be as creative as you like!

Swap requirements

  • 3 partners = 3 packets of enchantment sent, and 3 packets of enchantment received
  • Items in packets must feature in a traditional fairy tale. Please include a copy of or web-link to the original fairy tale, in case your partner is not familiar with the source.
  • Items in packets have no value requirement, and may be handmade, store-bought, vintage or re-purposed
  • Packets of Enchantment must be clearly labelled, stating manufacturer, product name, instructions, and include a sample of the item. Type of packaging is optional, but item must be enclosed in some way (e.g. seed packet, box, bag etc).
  • Please make sure your own profile references at least 2 different fairy tales. Although this swap is not profile-based, it still might help inspire your partner/s! (However, please do not rate your partner down for not matching your personal favourites, as it is not a requirement.)
  • Send on time!

The obvious bit

As well as meeting requirements as outlined on group homepage participants must have no late swaps on their dashboard, no 3 ratings in the last 3 months, and no 1 ratings in the last 12 months. I will check before assigning partners, so please contact me if you are concerned. I will take extenuating circumstances into account, but the happy swapping of the majority is the most important factor.

Super cute!

To be clear, a 'packet' is not a basketful of items, but one particular item, correct?

TangleCrafts 01/13/2011 #

Yes, that's right: a comb in a packet (providing it is of the enchanted variety, eg, a comb which turns into a forest when in pursuit by Baba Yaga) would count as one packet. Although multiple items (eg beans to grow a magic beanstalk) within a single packet are welcome, too. Sorry for delay in response!

P.S. Just in case anyone is planning to send magic beans, check the import laws of your partners' country. Certain countries, such as Australia, prohibit the import of seeds & vegetation etc.
