Description:

I’ve seen a fair few people mention beaded Dotees, but only ever seen a few that have been made. As it seems like a popular theme, I thought you might enjoy making one!

Your aim? To create a gorgeous Dotee doll that is beaded… This will be very time intensive, as everything apart from the face should be beaded. There are examples of this as shown in the swap picture – you can also check out knityoga’s Flickr account for a few more examples of the beaded Dotees she has made. If anyone else has any links to pictures of beaded Dotees, please post them in the comments section.

These swaps are International as Dotees are quite light to send.

Swap Details:

  • Dotees should be 3-6 inches long, not including the tail or hanger
  • Dotees can have any type of face (painted, clay, embroidered, felt etc, anything goes)
  • Dotees should be entirely beaded (beads sewn onto a material Dotee and covering all parts of the Dotee apart from the face)
  • Dotees can be any colour (because of the nature of the swap it would be nice if partner’s profiles were checked for colour preferences, and it would be nice if there was some sort of design made with the beads - but this is entirely up to the sender)
  • Dotees must not have arms or legs
  • Hangers can be ribbon or beaded
  • Tails should be beaded.

Because this swap is time intensive, I have allowed 16 weeks (roughly 3 1/2 - 4 months) for Dotees to be completed and sent – this has been revised from the original 5 month deadline. However, if anyone has any problems, or thinks this is not enough time to be able to complete the Dotee, please get in touch – I am happy to consider revision of dates. I will be emailing to ensure that participants are progressing well and will have their dotees sent on time. If this swap is successful I’ll host another one in mid 2011.

Profiles will be checked before partners are assigned. (I aim to assign partners within 24 hours after sign up closes)

Have fun!!

Is the send by date correct on this swap? Is it really June 30th?

ShadowAkiyah 12/19/2010 #

Yes the send by date is correct - as the material needs to be fully beaded aside from the face I wanted to allow as much time as possible for the dotees to be completed and sent :o) I've also PM'd you this incase you don't check back.

5 months??? that's going to cause alot of flakers, mainly because people will most likely forget. i make beaded dotees all the time and it only takes me a week or two at the most

I'm PM'ing you this to, just incase, but I'll leave my reasoning here just incase anyone else wonders at the length of time allowed also:

I thought that I'd allow as much time as possible so that newbies to dotee dolls (beaded in particular)/people who only craft an hour or so a night (for whatever reason) get chance to do one and to allow members to join other group swaps in between so they don't feel the need to rush/get stressed about it. I also intend to send progress/reminder messages to see how people are doing. I would've thought that the chances of flaking would be slimmer seeing as it's a group swap and not a public, and with the reminders also. I'd appreciate any other thoughts/views on the timeframe though, and thanks for posting!

I have changed the send by date to reflect messages I have had regarding the allowed time. As stated in the swap description, I am willing to address this again if necessary
