Description:

Here is a swap with a bit of a challenge---you will make a background, then cut your inchies out of that! Its a method I use sometimes, and I thought it would be fun for other inchie lovers to give it a try! You will make at least 4 inchies for 4 partners*.

First, you will make the background: use a sturdy base (I use manila folders) cut to at least 6 by 6 inches. Cover this with cardstock, book pages, or scrapbooking paper, then have at it with rubber stamps, markers, colored pencils, glitter, collage---whatever you want to create a workable background. You can even make a Zentangle background.

Next, cut or punch out your inchies. I love my Fiskars squeeze punch for this! You will need at least 16 for this swap.

Finally, you may further embellish your inchies with anything that will add to them: mixed media, glitter, tiny brads, stick-on gems, etc. Or, your background may so so fabulous, you can leave it alone!

Send your inchies in some sort of sleeve or little baggie so they will be protected. You don't have to put your information on each one, but send some info along with them so your partner will know who they came from.

  • if you have more than 16 great inchies, you can send your partners more than 4 inchies. Technically, you should get 36 inchies from a 6 by 6 piece of background, but not every 1x1 inch piece will turn out to be a great inchie. Just don't send the leftovers, send your best work!

This swap is open to newbies with a filled-in profile, and I will be checking profiles and ratings! No recent 1's or 3's without an explanation before you sign up. Please make sure you will able to complete this swap before you sign up--I can angel, but I shouldn't have to. Also, I am making this swap for US only for now---if it is successful, I will do another one for International players.

JUST ADDED--I made a video on youtube to show people the technique for this swap....[Rubber Stamped Backgrounds] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GJ3QiaIfc0)

4 inchies to 4 partners = 16 inchies needed, not 12. I can't join this, since I'm not in the US, but I thought I'd mention that.

Leashah 01/ 4/2011 #

This will be my first inchie swap, so I am open to hints/tips/advice and also constructive criticisms. :)

good looking out, @Xandoz ....I did this late last night, so I guess my math was off when its past my bedtime!

and what I do, @Leashah is glue cardstock or printed scrapbooking paper with a light background on manila folders cut to size, then stamp on it with Brilliant ink, which is all sparkly. Or I will use chalk ink on white cardstock. Then once I punch them out, I can use the chalk ink around the edges a little, then embellish each one. Or I use book pages like I would scrapbooking paper, and stamp on that.

I'd love to see an international version. :) This sounds fun!

If this swap turns out good, then I will host an international one as soon as it ends----just wanting to test the waters first....

BDooBs 01/ 6/2011 #

I too would love to see an international version, if all goes swimmingly!

Also, Ive seen the technique youre mentioning in the description described as serendipity before. I`m just tossing this out there for any of your swappers, in case they want to google that for a visual example. I love this technique! And love to make inchies this way!

I hope it goes well!

as for international----the swap deadline is the 17th, and if there aren't too many more partners signed up, I will open it to international----if I can change it---I should be able to....if I can't change it, I'll post another one as soon as this one ends.....

and @BDooBs - I had no idea there was a visual example online! This was just something I thought I figured out and I was the only one who did it---sigh!! There goes my genius moment.....I was going to create a little video this weekend and post it online for those that want to use the technique...I'll post a link here once I do........

Gofeen 01/16/2011 #

I'd like it to be international too. This sounds like so much fun!

princessblueberry 01/18/2011 #

Whew, I made it :-D I just finished my Inchies...they just need addresses :-D

Rejoicing 01/18/2011 #

Hey, can we send an assortment to our partners or should all 4 come from the same background? I enjoyed this, it was too hard to stop at one! LOL!

pirategrrl775 01/18/2011 #

@Rejoicing --yes, you can send an assortment! I make backgrounds, then I keep whatever is left, since I can always get one or two more from them.....

pirategrrl775 01/18/2011 #

and......once this swap ends, I will do an international version---the turn-out was pretty good for the U.S. players...... ;)
