Description:

Smart women enjoy the power of perfume: nothing else can recall a romantic memory, create a sensational mood, or capture one's personality so vividly. There is a marvelous elation in discovering a quintessential perfume of one's own. Each perfume is a balanced symphony of essences. Whether it's soft, light, delicate, dramatic or seductive, women have enjoyed perfume for centuries.

For this swap let's take 2-4 or more essential oils and blend them together to make a wonderful new scent for our partner to try. There are so many wonderful books and recipes available and if you can't find one you like, ask me because I have ton's of books on the subject.

The perfumed oil would be made using pure essential oils (not fragrance oils you use to scent a room with) and a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil etc. and a little bit of vitamin e oil for preservation if you like.

Put your perfume in a sweet little 1-2 oz. bottle and decorate it some way to make it special for your partner. Perhaps with a tiny silk flower bud, a lovely sticker, ribbon etc. Remember when packing to mail, secure the top with tape or something so that it won't come off in mailing and wrap in bubble wrap very well for cushioning.

You know the rules, no recent 1's or 3's, nothing under a 4.80 rating please. Newbies are welcomed and most of all let's have fun.

Examples:

Elegant 24 drops of oakmoss 18 drops of bergamot 12 drops of amber 12 drops vetiver 6 drops pine balsam carrier oil to fill bottle vit. e to preserve

Special Blend: 10 drops frankinsence 10 drops myrrh 5 drops sandalwood carrier oil to fill bottle 1 cinnamon stick to fit in bottle vit. e oil to preserve

Simplicity 10 drops lavender 5 drops tea tree carrier oil to fill bottle vit. e oil to preserve (this is a great perfume but also a wonderful foot rub)

PLEASE BE SURE TO ASK YOUR PARTNER IF THEY HAVE ANY ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN OILS LIKE LAVENDER ETC.

@slewis234 I have wanted to try making perfumes for a long time so would love to join this swap. I have never done this before, do you have any links to recipe pages or is it just a carrier oil + your own choice of essential oils. xx

you can basically use a carrier oil keaniebean and then add your choices of essential oils to it for scent. like the one i posted with frankinsence, myrrh, sandalwood and a cinnamon stick, that's a fabulous scent. i love it.

i think you can google homemade perfume or essential oils recipes and find some of what your looking for too. also, jeannie rose has an awesome book that would be helpful. she has tons of recipes for kitchen cosmetics. there's a little book called the scented woman that i have used and i'd be glad to copy some of the recipes from it for you. i could email them to you. if you tell me what kind of scent you're looking for. anyway, if i can help further, please let me know and i hope you'll join. it's not complicated like everyone seems to think. it's really not!

Ok I'm in. Thanks for the info. Is the book you are talking about by Maribeth Riggs, it's only £1.55 ($2 ish) on Amazon, so if you recommend it I might HAVE to make a purchase, lol. I'd love some recipes, anything citrusy or jasmine would be great.x

yes, that's the book. it's a small book with lot's of information in it! i'll look through and see what i have....it's a good little source of information. i think anyway and you can't beat the price!

keaniebean - here's some you might like - serenity 3 drops lemon 8 drops bergamot 3 drops sweet orange 6 drops ylang ylang 8 drops vanilla the franrant notes of ylang-ylang are sparked with citrus notes and warmed by base notes of vanilla. dilute with apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil or jojoba oil for oils and for perfume use 1/2 oz. sterilized bottle with 3/4 teaspon vodka and the scented oils in the order given.

Blushing Rose 8 drops lemon verbena 10 drops ylang-ylang 8 drops rose 6 drops amber you can make it like perfume with the vodka also or just use it with a carrier oil for perfume oil. i like this one because you get a mild rose scent with a zip of lemon verbena.

these are from a lovely book called : perfumes, splashes & colognes - discovering and crafting your personal fragrances by nancy m. booth. it has tons of info, recipes for all kind of things other than just perfumes. it's a great book to have in your collection.
