Description:

PLEASE NOTE: FOR THIS MONTH, I’M GOING TO MAKE THIS SWAP INTERNATIONAL, AND SEE HOW IT GOES. If you would like to start your own US-only swap for this month, feel free!

If you’re just joining us, this a monthly swap. Each month, the participants send their partner a book that fits three different criteria— a specific color on the cover, certain words in the title, imagery within the book, etc. You don’t have to join every month in order to participate... but it’s more fun that way! :)

For this month’s swap, you will send your partner a book, from your own collection or from a used bookstore, thrift shop, etc. that contains all three items from the following list:

  1. Like a valentine, there must be words in a pretty font (cursive, script, or just something unusual and nice—use your judgment) somewhere on the front or back cover.

  2. An image of a woman or girl must appear on the cover.

  3. In honor of President’s Day here in the US, there must be a mention of a president somewhere in the book. However, this does not have to be a US president; it can be a president in another country, a company president, etc.

This might sound like a challenging list, but so far I’ve found a couple of books in my own collection that work: “Mother Tongue” by Demetria Martinez, and “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith.

Books can be any type or genre—fiction, biography, self-help, how-to, children’s, little “gifty” books, etc. Sender’s choice, but feel free to check your partner’s profile to get ideas or avoid specific dislikes. Books can and most likely will be used, but must be readable and clean. PLEASE include a note describing where all three items can be found (if it’s not obvious), and anything you’d like to add about the book, your reaction to it (if you've read it), etc.

To recap: you will have ONE partner and send them ONE book, but it needs to have all three scavenger hunt items represented in/on it (pretty font, woman, president).

Feel free to send Media Mail (within the US), particularly if your book is quite heavy, but do not include anything else in the package, other than the note (and maybe a bookmark) tucked inside the book! It might be a good idea to have a book in mind before signing up... then, after partners are assigned, you can keep an eye out for something that might be more your partner's taste, if necessary.

In the past, I’ve limited this swap to US/Canada/Mexico only, because mailing books overseas can get so expensive… but after several requests from overseas friends to make this an international swap, and low turnout in the SHBC swaps over the past several months ( @bookwyrmm and @luvscrappin -- you’re my girls!!!) :) I’ve decided, for this month, to open this swap internationally, and see how it goes. I may or may not decide to make this a permanent thing, but I thank you in advance for your patience while I play around with the format. As I said before, if anyone wants to create a US-only swap for this round, feel free!

Having said all that... let's scavenge! :)
