Weekly Newbie Swap

I'm taking over this swap for Mommy's Crafting, who was wonderful enough to hand me the reins, so I will be providing future weekly newbie swaps. However the rules and ideas behind the swap are the same as always!

Welcome!! This weekly swap is set up to help serious newbies get ratings quickly, without skimping on a quality swap. The key word here is QUALITY.

This will be an International swap since you can easily customize a light weight package.

This swap will be open to ALL new swappers WITH a filled out profile. This is very important! I have to be a bit tougher on this one… after feedback from some swappers I find it essential that you have a good profile. Be sure to read the links below about creating a good profile. I will no longer be able to contact you if I feel you need to add more to your profile before the start of the swap. Reminding folks to fill out their profile is taking too much of my time. Fill out your profile & then sign up for this swap. Follow all the directions in the description or you will not be able to participate in this swap.

Other swappers are also welcome to join, I will be checking profiles though. I reserve the right to ban anyone with a poor swapping history.

What will we be swapping? Anything you want. Let’s send our partners our best. Once partners are assigned you will have the weekend to create something wonderful for them. You will need to go check out their profiles and choose items you think they will love. Now this swap doesn’t have to cost much, just your time. Some folks have requested a monetary value, I’d say minimum would be $10. Please do see my examples below & check out the photos on the flickr group above for some ideas of great swaps.

Do you knit or crochet? Maybe you could send a dish cloth, a recipe and a lovely homemade card.

After reading your partner’s profile did you feel like you have a lot in common? Send them a lengthy pen-pal letter along with some homemade tags.

What about a hobby or favorite craft? You could send a journal & pretty pen to a writer. Or some nice yarn for a knitter.

These are just ideas, get creative and send your partner something you’d like to receive. Something you’re proud of.

Remember to:

  • Fill out your profile, for some ideas you can click here and here

  • Create a nice package based on your partner’s profile.

  • Be sure to include a note to let your partner know who you are and what swap your package is for.

  • You do not have to send a homemade item, just remember most of us love things others make especially for us!

  • Be sure to send your package on time!

  • Don't forget to rate your partner. Everyone will be putting a lot of thought into your package, it's only right to let them know you received it and to give them the rating they deserve.

  • Please contact your partner before rating anything lower than perfect.

  • Please ask questions, I want everyone to have a wonderful swapping experience!

NOTE: Be sure to post pictures of your swaps to the flickr group!!

I am a new by and itching to get in on a swap but I have a business trip next week and I don't feel I am going to be able to devote quality time to selecting something for my partner so I will join the next one. Thanks for doing this Stephanie. :)

Ugh, I wanted to get a rating but I fear the cost of shipping something overseas. I'll participate on the next domestic round.

I probably won't be having a US only swap - the reason for this is, you CAN easily make a package for overseas that doesn't cost much to ship. For example, I just sent a package yesterday to Israel from the US here that included a handmade beaded necklace, 2 samples of body wash and 2 teabags and it only cost me $2.81 to ship it to Israel, which was actually cheaper than some of my swaps sent to my own country. So if you keep the contents of the package lightweight and they fit in a bubble envelope, it shouldn't cost you much.

Got my package out today! I wonder why it is so much more expensive to ship to Brazil than it was to ship to Israel? O_o
