Description:

This is very fun, simply project that I hope a lot of you will want to try!

Sometimes journaling can feel cumbersome. "Really? I have to write an actual entry!?" Sometimes we just have something quick and random to say. "I can't believe so-and-so is wearing leg warmers in the office." Sometimes it's a song lyric that just won't get out of your head. Or maybe it's an idea for a story or a poem.

These "Random Musings" may hit you while you're watching your favorite TV show (ala Mystery Science Theater) or while you're at work, or maybe even while you're waiting in line to check out at Wal-Mart. These are the thoughts you have that don't warrant a full journal entry, but deserve to exist in the world, recorded in a handy little journal that is conveniently-sized to fit in your purse.

For this swap you will need a mini composition notebook or one dimensionally similar.

You will have just over a month to cram as many Random Musings as you can into that journal. Sometimes your musing may take a page, but usually, they will only take a couple lines as they are just supposed to be quick thoughts. Sometimes you may feel the need to doodle or use a sticker. That's fine, but please remember that this is mainly a text-driven project.

The quick breakdown:

  • 1 mini composition notebook

  • decorated - does NOT have to be extravagant. Stickers, pretty paper, ribbon, and some marker go a long way! (see example below)

  • filled as much as you can in just over a month - Please try to fill as much as you can. No one wants a quarter-filled notebook.

Wanna see an example? This is one I did with a friend - Sorry the example is only available to Livejournal members. :(

You can start this ahead of time, but I have discovered that the randomness is more interesting when it is spread out over a little time rather than trying to cram 80 pages in a week.

Anyone who wants to host an international version is welcome to do so!

Oh dear another one that is regional only any chance of it becoming international so that we overseas people can take part as well. I have never hosted a big swap like this before and with guidance maybe I should this time as I think others out there would join. I have only hosted private swaps. Let me know soon and I can get it up and going if its wanted by us internationals. Cheers Cazmae55

Thanks for posting that RainyC. I usually just go to Wal-Mart and grab one. I just wanted a pic of what they needed. Definitely get any deals you can! I always shop cheap. :)

Hmm, I wonder if my dollar tree carries these notebooks. If I can find one, I will join the swap ;)

Ready for this one and found a little book at the Family dollar store....

PisceanMama 03/26/2011 #

I picked a few up at my grocery store and got them for 89 cents each. Question: Can we start now or do we need to wait for the swap date to arrive?

savannahjan 03/27/2011 #

You can start now. Bring on the random! Will help you get through more of the notebook that way. :)

pearlywhitesmile 03/28/2011 #

I started mine today and I am looking forward to filling up the pages.

savannahjan 03/29/2011 #

I started mine today as well! I wanted to get a strong start! Because I know I'll have slow days.

PisceanMama 03/29/2011 #

I started a couple days ago. Granted, I only have two so far, and both are about my kids. But I suspect that will cover a LOT of my random musings! :)

savannahjan 03/29/2011 #

So far I've covered work, the climate at work, City of Angels, a couple pet peeves, and a few song lyrics. And everything in between as well as outside of the lines. :)

pickledpandas 03/30/2011 #

Gah! I still haven't found one. I am checking more stores today. Didn't think to check the grocery store, thanks for the tip!

I went through the list of participants and everyone is good to go! I don't have internet at home, so I may not be able to assign partners until later in the day tomorrow. But rest assured, they will be assigned soon!

I am so excited for this swap! I hope you have as much fun with this as I do!

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGAHHHHH!!!!!!!! I can't believe that I missed this one. Well, since I like the idea so much (and I love those little composition books), I will just have to do one for "posterity".... LOL Thanks for the idea.

I just passed the half way mark in my journal! ^squee^
