Description:

I recently hosted a swap like this, and it was so much fun that I want to do it again!

You will take a piece of stiff paper or cardstock and draw your Zentangle strings with pencil. Paper can be any size between 3" and 12". Then cut your paper into pieces, and mail one piece to each of your partners. Your partner will Zentangle the piece and mail it back to you (at which point you should rate them and thank them), and you will end up with a composite Zentangle made by many different people.

How many partners will you have? That depends on how many people sign up for the swap! If 10 people sign up, you will send to nine people (because you won't send to yourself :)). If fewer sign up, then you have fewer stamps to buy.

How should you cut up your tangle? It's up to you. You can cut it so that there is an extra piece for yourself, or not. Cut with straight lines, curves, puzzle pieces... anything goes.

Since this will be a composite, let's keep these traditional Zentangles - meaning black ink on white paper. If you want to add some shading, go for it, but no colors please. If you'd like your tangle to have a border, please mark this somehow, maybe by x-ing out the border areas with pencil. That way your partner knows not to tangle there.

Dates will be as follows:
signup deadline: Friday, 1 July
deadline to send out stringed pieces: Friday, July 8 (please click "sent" after sending this step)
deadline to send Zentangled pieces back: Friday, July 29

Please let me know if there are questions!

Sounds like fun but I am confused about the rating. I think that Swap-Bot is set up for your partners to rate you so they would be rating you when they received the cut piece of zentangle. When they return the piece to you, you get to thank them, of course, and appreciate their art but I don't see how they can be rated.

Right, the rating is a little different on this one, but I think it will still work if everyone rates for the finished pieces they receive. It worked out fine in the original swap. I think it works because everyone is a partner of everyone, and (as far as I know) it's not breaking any swap-bot rules to do it this way.

Think of it like a two part swap: part one is sending out the stringed pieces, and part two is sending back a tangled piece. You get your rating for completing the swap.

so everyone presses send when they've sent their strings and everybody rates when they'v received all the "zentagle pieces" back? Is that right?

ShadowAkiyah 06/22/2011 #

so everyone presses sent when they post their strings off and everyone rates when they've had the "zentangle pieces", back even...

@ShadowAkiyah - right. Press "sent" when you send out all your pieces, and rate as you get the tangled pieces back over time.

Would live to join, but going on vacation end of July. Hope you will host this swap again!

To help me stay organized, I wrote a number on the back of each piece so I can place them when they return. I also wrote my swapbot ID, to help ensure they get back to me. I didn't participate before so maybe this isn't an issue, but I can totally see myself forgetting which goes where otherwise...

I did the same thing! I put a number and my return address label on the back of each. Great minds...

It's very important to write your name on the back of the piece when you've finished it...I have rec'd two pieces that did not have names and I've lost track of which envelope they came in.... Everyone gets the same rating though because everyone did an AMAZING job!!! Thanks!!!
