Description:

Hello! If you love to make ATC’s, or any other paper crafts that use small bits of paper, I have just the swap for you. For this swap you will send 1 partner 25 pieces of interesting paper cut to ATC size (2.5” x 3.5”) that could be used as backgrounds for an ATC. This is not a swap for “ATC blanks” or the sturdy backs for ATC’s, but rather for interesting bits of paper that could be adhered to a sturdy back, and serve as the background. I am not sure if this swap has been done before (probably!), but if you have done this before and would like “credit” for the idea, please let me know!

Examples of the types of papers that could be sent (this list is not all inclusive!) or places to get papers from:

•Washi (rice) paper

•Origami paper

•Dictionary, Other reference books

•Maps, Insides of Security Envelopes

•Old Library or Bingo Cards, Old Ledgers

•Stationary, Note Cards

•Architectural drawings, blue prints, floor plans, etc.

•Vintage Children’s Books

•Other Old Books, letters, etc.

•Papers written in another language

•Patterned scrapbooking paper

•Handmade paper

•Sheet Music

•Paper that has been sewn or embroidered by you

•Paper that has been rubber stamped by you

•Paper that has been heat embossed or dry embossed by you

•Paper that has been decorated by you using any other medium!

Please DO NOT SEND: plain or solid colored cardstock, regular notebook paper, ads or newspaper clippings (unless they are in a different language, really old or somehow else interesting), and any paper that is in bad shape (i.e. badly wrinkled, torn, dirty, etc.) Also, please do not send digital images printed onto copy paper using an inkjet printer.

Here are the requirements to give your partner a 5 rating:

•25 DIFFERENT pieces of paper (all different – no repeats)

•Paper must be cut to 2.5” x 3.5” (please cut accurately)

•No plain or solid paper (or anything else listed under DO NOT SEND)

•Sent by the swap deadline

This swap is sender’s choice, although it is always nice to read your partners profile first. Please send your stack of papers in some type of plastic baggie or plastic wrap, to protect them from moisture/humidity. A note with the swap name and your user name makes rating easier too!

This swap is open to all swappers with a rating of 4.9 or above (NEWBIES WELCOME!) – no recent 1’s or 3’s. I will check profiles before assigning partners, and will angel if necessary.

This swap is the USA ONLY version, there is also an International version as well.

A note about me: This is my first swap that I am hosting, and am really excited about it! If there is something different that I could/should be doing, or some detail I have missed, please let me know.

Happy Swapping!

UPDATE: Due to questions I have received, I want to make this clear ... this swap is for ATC SIZE papers. If you want bigger pieces, then please join one of the 6x6 or 8x8 paper swaps that are frequently on SB. This swap should be fun for the sender and the receiver. It is meant to be fun for the sender to pick out portions of a piece of paper that they think another person would find inspiring, and it is meant for the receiver to get pieces of paper for new inspiration that could be put to use right away. If you, as the sender, want to send bigger, then message your partner and see if that is okay with them ... but just keep in mind the swap requirements are for 20 differnt pieces of paper cut to 2.5x3.5. If you feel that you are cutting too much of a pattern of a paper off because of the size requirement, then you have not selected the right piece of paper. Plain solid paper is not okay ... solid paper that is somehow embellished (glittered, metallic, distressed, etc.) is fine. And, most importantly ... this swap is SENDER"S CHOICE. You cannot request to receive certain types of paper, as this swap is meant for you to receive new inspiration ... maybe a piece of paper you would not have thought about using before. While it is nice to review a person's profile to see their color preferences, etc, it is not a requirement of this swap.

Thanks again for the participation, and all of the questions. If I host these swaps again, I will address all of these questions from the onset.

Happy Swapping!

I have some colored metallic/glittery cardstock. Would this be OK to send, or would it be a no-no because it's "Solid Paper"?

tarabranham 07/ 8/2011 #

@sarachung - comment - I love the idea of this swap but was wondering if it wouldn't be okay to have the papers be at least ATC size minimum 2.5 x 3.5. Sometimes papers will have lots of stuff on them and the artist might like one section of the paper over another. Just a thought... it's your swap. :)

DixieDiane 07/ 8/2011 #

If it were me, I would love colored metallic/glittery and I would like patterned paper to be cut abit larger due to pattern on paper. How about Wallpaper-is that included? I have Tons of it.

On my profile I will post a list of types of paper I really could use and ones I really don't want just in case. That way I might get a piece or two of what I would like to have.

phillyzee 07/ 8/2011 #

what about solid CSs that are altered in some way....run through a texture folder or inked, sprayed with glimmer mists??

Cyndimom 07/ 8/2011 #

I also like the idea of it cut a little bigger, that way I can use some of the outside for layers or like said before, you can choose the portion you like of a pattern. If your my partner, I am great with the metallic paper too :)

I don't mind if the papers are bigger. I love to use them on a variety of things!

@ Lizardbeth -- I think glittery or metallic would be fine, because even though they are solid, they are interesting, and that is more the point of this swap.

@ tarabranham -- If you would like to cut your paper larger, you are more than welcome to message your partner to see if that would be acceptable to them ... they are the ones that will be rating you, so it would be best to check with them.

@ DixieDiane -- Wall paper would be quite fine, although I would not send all wall paper. If you are interested in bigger pieces of paper there are always lots of "6x6" and "8x8" paper swaps on Swap-Bot, and that may be more up your ally than this swap. The point of this swap is bits of paper that can be put to use right away to make an ATC, and cheap postage. You cannot request that your paper be cut larger, although if your partner wants to send you bigger that is fine ... but just keep in mind this is a sender's choice swap.

@ Phillyzee -- If the solid paper is altered that is fine, but be sure to include a variety.

@ Cyndimom -- It is up to your partner to decide if they would want to go bigger ... but the point of this swap is to send ATC size papers. For me personally, it will be fun for me to select bits of paper and cut out the 3.5" x 2.5" size portion that could be inspiration to someone else. The point of this swap is for you to receive bits of paper that someone else thinks that you could potentially find inspiring ... for new inspiration, you know? If you receive big pieces of paper, and you must select the inspiring part, then it has defeated the purpose of this swap. As I mentioned to another swapper, there are always lots of "6x6" and "8x8" paper swaps here on swap-bot, and those might be more up your ally ... this swap is meant to be different.

Not a problem--I will like whatever is sent.

bruxbaby 07/10/2011 #

I really think the paper should be cut just a little bit bigger than the size of an ATC. I have received paper before that someone had cut to fit an ATC backing, but the cuts were sloppy and didn't quite fit like they should. We all know that not every can cut a straight lines, so I hope my partner would send me paper just a little bit bigger and I will cut it myself. Thank you

sarachung 07/10/2011 #

@ bruxbaby - this swap is for ATC sized paper ... not bigger. If you are looking for bigger cuts you should join a different swap ... however if you are still interested in this swap, please know that accurate cuts are a part of the requirement for this swap, and thus this should theoretically compel your partner to accurately cut their pieces. If you do not receive pieces that are 3.5 x 2.5, you could theoretically rate someone a "3" if you wanted to on the basis of not meeting the requirement. I hope this clears up any confusion ...

sarachung 07/11/2011 #

Partners have been assigned! Happy swapping everyone .. if there are any problems, contact me, and I will do my best to rectify the situation, as I want this to be fun and enjoyable for all! If you were one the people I banned from the swap, please do not be offended, but this swap clearly states that you cannot have any recent 3's ... thanks for your understanding!
