Description:

This is a swap for members who are just beginning to learn certain skills. All members are welcome to join, but please keep in mind that this may be your partner's first effort - so please be kind when rating and providing feedback. (";)

I searched high and low for an easy beginners tutorial for fabric ATCs. Without luck. So the tute we are going to use is for a Quilted Fabric Postcard. Please remember though that we are making an ATC and not a PC, so your measurements will be different, but the process and techniques will be the same.

ATCs must be 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches - this is the ONLY and therefore the MOST IMPORTANT rule about ATCS. (";)

Here is the TUTE that we will all use. It simply involves choosing a fun print for your top piece and quilting it to your middle layer. Then you add on a backing, finish the edges, include the required handwritten information, and you are done!

This is a simple ATC design but the fun will be in choosing a fabric that you hope will please your partner.

You can do the sewing/quilting by hand or machine - your choice.

The quilting can follow the fabric's design or not - your choice.

The top fabric should be 100% cotton. You can also use materials other than those in the tutorial for the middle piece if you like (such as regular felt, flannel, or quilt batting).

Let's keep it simple and not add any embellishments - this is to be only one piece of fabric, quilted.

So, we will make 1 fabric ATC to send to 1 partner.

Be sure to write the following on the back of the ATC:

  • name and number of the ATC (e.g., Cat #1)
  • date made (e.g., September 2011)
  • artist's name and location (e.g., Sally Sews, Needlewood, Utah)

HERE is a thread with a link for printing your backings if you like.

Don't forget to also include a note with the name of this swap and your Swap-bot moniker.

Open to all NFS members in good standing anywhere in the world.

NOTE: I need at least 5 participants (not including myself) for the swap to go forward.

If you have any questions, please pm me.
