Description:

For this swap you will be buying a journal or a nice spiral notebook (5 inches X 7 inches minimum size and at least 60 pages) and making at LEAST 20 entries. Each participant will choose ONE of the books of the Bible I've listed below, and will read and do a study of that book in their Bible. You will choose at least 20 verses from the book you've picked from below and make an entry in your journal/notebook, including that verse, its location (chapter & verse), and at least 100 words on what that verse tells you or means to you. More verses and longer entries would be great - these are just guidelines to start from. Entries can be handwritten or typed, and if you are one of those talented people who want to make your own journal with embellishments, etc., feel free to do so rather than buying one.

You will have 1 month to complete your journal and I'll add a few days to that to allow time to mail it to your partner. I'm making this swap INTERNATIONAL so you might want to keep that in mind when picking out the journal or notebook you will use.

Here's the Bible books you may choose from:

  1. Esther

  2. Ruth

  3. Psalms

  4. Proverbs

  5. Romans

  6. Ephesians

  7. 1st Corinthians

  8. Hebrews

You can use whatever version of the Holy Bible you prefer. If you want to participate and don't own a Bible, there are many on-line. You don't have to be Christian to do this swap, but you must have a sincere interest in studying one of the above books in the Christian Bible.

Okay, so that's 1 journal with at least 20 entries, to 1 partner, and 30 days to do it. You will receive a journal from another participant with at least 20 entries on the book they have chosen.

Please, when you send your journal, do not send tracts or denominational literature. If you want to include extras, some stickers or a bookmark or something like that would be great to include.

You must have a 4.6 or above rating, and at least 3 snail mail swaps completed and rated to participate. No more than 1 no-send. If you have any questions, contact me, okay?

I LOVE this idea but I am not signing up because I don't know that I would be very good at it :/

Karen 11/30/2007 #

Nerd Girl, What are you not sure about being good at doing??

mommie2angels 11/30/2007 #

This sounds like you could put one verse reference at the top of 20 pages and then explain what the verse(s) says or means or how could you use this info to benefit your life at this time.
You might also write about something new your learned or how you had a "lightbulb" moment of understanding something you've heard many times but never really got it or understood it.

Maybe you read an idea that you would like to share with someone else or maybe you read something you aren't sure about and would like to ask your pastor, teacher, or friend about. Maybe for your entry that day it would be more questions and thoughts along the meaning that you'd like to find out about.

Hi, can I use a composition notebook? Thanks For letting me know. [email protected] Hugs Dawny

I have a question...If this is on the bible , then why would a person not be allowed to send any tracts if they wanted to? Perhaps the recipient can give them out with a tip at a restaurant or in a utility bill etc. I don't understand this restriction at all.

Karen 01/15/2008 #

Dawny, Sure that would be okay. The contents are the main thing in this swap, so we're pretty flexible about the journal/notebook requirements.

Karen 01/15/2008 #

Timeless - If someone wants to send tracts in with utility bills or hand them out with a tip in a restaurant, there are plenty of places they can get them for free or at a very minimal cost. Someone else's tracts might be Christian but not the type you would choose to use. For example, I see that in your profile that you specify you only want Christian stuff that is non-Charismatic. The term Christian covers many different denominations and beliefs. The purpose of this swap is to bring the family of Christ together, not to tear it apart by sharing materials such as tracts that are too often written from the slant of one narrow view. I hope that answers your question and that you'll join us.

I'm having to drop from this swap. The 1st one is way too time consuming to have to write out all those verses. It is often not good enough to write just 1 verse usually it takes 2-4 in order to understand the passage enough to understand the topic.

Thanks for understanding.

Faerielicious 01/23/2008 #

This is a wonderful idea. Sadly I'm new to the site, so I don't meet the requirements. I hope you might do a swap like this again at a later date. I've always been fond of the book of Ruth especially :)

I'm in the first swap and I haven't found it to be bad time wise. Maybe it's because i'm really opinionated? My poor partner, lol.

There were a couple of ver. I wrote 3 pages on and a couple I only wrote one page [100 words is only a couple of paragraphs] I honestly haven't kept a word count...

Anyways. I unjoined this one because I wanted to see how the first one went and now I'm back to sign up for this one again. :)

CelestialFreak 02/ 1/2008 #

Getting through the first one has been a spiritual kick in the pants. But I'm getting through it. I just haven't kept journaling on a regular basis aside from my very varied blog. But I think this is a good stretch for me, so I'm back to sign up for this one again. I think it'll be good, not just to share my thoughts with my partner, but to keep up some discipline along these lines. Will you host more of these? Would you possibly host one where it's an any verse per day kind of journal? Just wondering. Thank you for doing these swaps. It's a very good thing!

Timeless63 02/ 1/2008 #

Karen, thanks for the reply. The tracts i have are based on bible verses and about salvation. Which is what Christianity is about. The bible talks about the great commission. Which tracts can be a tool for. Thanks anyway. Have a great swap.

Timeless63 02/ 1/2008 #

Oh by the way, if you would like to see the tract i especially like to send out feel free to have a look online where it is sold. I do the tracts in my church... http://www.livingwaters.com/good/003.shtml

AyricaEnigma 02/ 2/2008 #

Yay for this swap!

Karen 02/ 3/2008 #

Timeless, This isn't about whether your tract is appropriate. I haven't checked it out. Tracts are too often very slanted toward the demonination of the person who hands them out. And that is what I do not want in this swap. I'm well aware of the great commission and its importance. If you're serious about that responsibility, join the swap I just set up and focus on verses about salvation. Your tracts aren't really necessary to tell people about salvation, are they??

Karen 02/ 3/2008 #

CelestialFreak, I'd been thinking of doing something along the lines of a verse a day of your choice. I know what you mean about this being a kick in the spiritual pants. lol. I probably had as tough a time doing this as anyone. I need to make a stronger commitment to daily reading and study and this seems like a good way to do that. I'm happy to see you signed up for #3. I hope to continue these as long as there's an interest in them.

CelestialFreak 02/29/2008 #

I'm so sorry to have dropped out of the next one, I do hop you'll continue them. I just have to step back from swapping for a bit. Maybe I'll catch back in on 4 or 5... I do plan on continuing this for myself while I'm not in swaps... but can't send and will be out of town too.
